Homebrew Chemalanos Species Details
Chemalanos look similar to a lizard stood on its back two legs. They tend to be timid, yet perceptive, preferring to hide in the shadows and watch their enemies, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. These creatures came to be centuries ago when Diety, Semuanya, decided to give some chameleons human-like abilities. From a distance, these creatures are easily mistaken for lizardfolk, as they share the same reptilian form and scally bodies, however, Chemalanos tend to be much smaller than most lizardfolk, reaching heights of only around 5ft.
Chemalanos Traits
Many of your abilities will allow you to stay out of harms way while you plan your next attack.Camouflage
You are able to change the colors of your scales to blend in with the surface behind you. If you are against any wall or object that is at least 5ft wide and taller than you, you can use a bonus action to camouflage into that object. In combat, enemies will still know where you are, but any attack made against you will be at disadvantage. Out of combat, doing this will grant you +5 to any stealth role you make on top of your stealth modifier.
Sticky Fingers
Your unique, "sticky fingers" present you with two unique abilities
First, you are able to climb up vertical surfaces such as walls, and across ceilings with a speed of 10ft. This allows you to make a hasty retreat out of the melee range of non-flying creatures and can grant allow you to drop onto unsuspecting enemies, granting you an automatic crit as long as you hit. (This means you still roll to hit but any hit counts as a critical strike)
Secondly, you gain advantage on sleight-of-hand checks for stealing items, but disadvantage on checks for placing items, as the objects can stick to your fingers, making it harder to let go of them.
Ability Score Increase
Your Wisdom increases by 2, and your Dexterity increases by 1.
Natural Armor
You have tough, scaly skin. When you aren't wearing armor, your AC Is 12 + your Dexterity modifier. You can use your natural armor to determine your AC if the armor you are wearing would leave you with a lower AC. A shield's benefits apply as normal while you use your natural armor.
Languages
You can speak, read, and write common, along with one other language of your choice.
Age
Chemalanos have a similar lifespan to Lizardfolk, reaching maturity around the age of 14 and rarely living longer than 60 years.
Alignment
Most Chemalanos are neutral, preferring to stay away from conflict whenever possible. However, some have been found to be slightly chaotic, using their abilities to steal valuables and mess with others.
Size
Most Chemalanos are slightly smaller than humans, reaching maximum heights of slightly over 5 feet. Your size is medium.
Speed
Your base walking speed is 30 feet. You also have a climbing speed of 10 feet and a swimming speed of 20 feet.
