Homebrew Demonic Fairy Species Details

Hailing from the Abyss, these tiny creatures found themselves growing accustomed to the Abyss' many different hazards and terrain. These creatures expanded their horizons and moved forth into Manu different regions and evolved accordingly to their surroundings. 

They are Soldiers, Scouts, Fighters, Magicians, Spies etc. They can do many different things as their abilities make them versatile in combat and such. 

Winged and Free

Don't be fooled, Demonic Fairies have wings corresponding to their Natural Hair Colour. These Colours are not the natural doom and gloom associated with the Abyss. These colours can be quite vibrant and colourful. For example, Green, White, Gold, Blue, Red etc. 

Wings tend to come out of their backs and tend to veer off to the sides of their body. Upon full growth, they can also have tails that extend from their wings which come from the evolution they originally got from being in the Abyss. Having a tail is natural thing they have which distinguishes them from a natural fairy.

Sense of Freedom

Demonic Fairies gain a sense of freedom as they adapt to their surroundings. They always feel at one with the place they are in which makes them feel like they are free to roam and explore. Of course their tails make them look distinct but they feel like they belong in the area and can do a lot with this mindset. 

A Race of Misconceptions

The demonic fairies are not a threatening race, they value interpersonal relationships among any race they come into contact with. Demonic Fairies choose who they fight for. They inhabit many different realms. They make friends and find a home everywhere they go. 

They are also a very outgoing and outspoken race. As a race, they are very accepting of people and have grown a rapport with other races over the years. However, Demonic Fairies are indeed rare and they are only known to a minority of races. They have allies among all races but their relationships are few.

Demonic Fairies are material beings at the heart of it all though. They are very much financially responsible and make decisions based on how beneficial it will be for themselves or their family's future. They will always dive for a bargain. 

Lastly, this race is commonly seen as a corrupted version of the peaceful Fae that the overworld has grown to love but that simply isn't true. Demonic Fairies are just Fae that evolved from surroundings that were too harsh for their more delicate counterparts. 

A Place Called Home

Although they come from the Abyss, these Fae folk live everywhere. Anywhere a tiny fairy bed can be. They will live anywhere which suits them. So beware if any tiny demonic neighbors move in next to you. 

After leaving the Abyss, these fairies took to the standard wooded areas in the overworld. They also moved into areas with snow and green. Some variants even moved through into the underdark. A large dark landscape which they found familiar in the long term.

These Fairies usually run anywhere from a tribe to a colony. Although there are a fair few of these Fae which ride solo because of their sense of adventure.

DEMONIC FAIRIES THAT "STRAY" FROM THE REST

Strays are the White-haired versions of the demonic fairies.

Once or twice a generation, a demonic fairy can stray from the rest and try to conquer lands. It is said that the first demonic fairy was a conquerer whose motive was to slay the Demon Race and take the Abyss for himself.

Upon his reign, the standard abyssal fairies took it upon themselves to slay their leader with the help of the demon race. The Demon Race are a cunning set of warriors who always have a good rapport with the Demonic Fairies. 

After the leader was slain. His bloodline continued. However, the next stray was a variant which furthered the demonic fairy population. Growing a relationship with the demon race along the way. Both having a common goal to end the human tyranny once and for all. 

Unlike the standard demonic fairies. Strays are usually equipped to take on mainline quests and tasks suited for a leader or a team member who plays a key role. 

A Life Well Lead

Preservation of knowledge is very much valued by these Fae. As a result of this, they make their lives as interesting and full of adventure as possible. This means they can tell stories and gain knowledge over time to preserve the race and make it stronger. Every stray is usually documented officially within the lore books of the Demonic Fairies. 

Demonic Fairies usually hold their religious allegiances just like most other races. They follow a multitude of different gods and goddesses. As a race, they hold no specific allegiances to any god. This means they can devote their lives to what they want and not what the race as a whole wants. 

When plunged into Miska’s body, the chaos in his blood sundered the rod and scattered its pieces across the multiverse. Recovering the pieces means gaining honor and esteem in the eyes of the vaati who forged it and could possibly restore a powerful weapon for defense against the agents of elemental evil.

Demonic Fairy Names

The Demonic Fairies have usually quite normal names to Humans and other humanoid creatures but, Demonic Fairies always have names which are two syllables. 

An Demonic Fairy of either gender may have any two syllable name they choose. If they choose a name with more or less than two syllables, they will be excommunicated from their race for breaking tradition.

DEMONIC FAIRY BACKGROUNDS

Backgrounds that are most appropriate for aarakocra include backgrounds that involve adventure, knowledge or items.

The yearn for these different things mean that demonic fairies are suited for all sorts of tasks that involve taxing situations. 

Demonic Fairy Traits

As Demonic Fairy, you have certain traits in common with your people. Being able to fly at high speed starting at 1st level. However, it is up to your DM how effective your flying skills are in different situations.

Ability Score Increase

Your Dexterity score increases by 2, and your Wisdom score increases by 1.

Age

Demonic Fairies mature at the same rate as humans but look much more youthful.

They can live from up to 500-600 years and reach full maturity at age 40. 

Alignment

Most Demonic Fairies are neutral and rarely choose sides when it comes to law and chaos. Tribal leaders and warriors might be lawful, while explorers and adventurers might tend toward chaotic.

Size

Demonic Fairies are usually the same size as normal fairies but can make themselves grow to humanoid size. They can make themselves anywhere up to 6ft Tall. They can only go from Tiny to Medium size.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Flight

You have a flying speed of 50 feet. To use this speed, you can’t be wearing medium or heavy armor.

Tail

Your tail is a natural weapon, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal force damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common, Sylvan, and Abyssal.

Grow/Shrink

Demonic Fairies have a racial trait which lets them grow or shrink items corresponding to their size. This means if they grow or shrink themselves, their inventory and items they're holding will follow suit. This includes any future items they also come to hold. 

They can also shrink or grow themselves to an item's size.

Grow/Shrink counts as a bonus action.
