A Gift From The Gods

Not that long ago, the axolotls were created by Gruuna, The Goddess of Birth, as a symbol of friendship. One of her best friends at the time was The God of Luck. They spend a lot of time together, though Gruuna knew that she couldn't be with him at all times. She knew that most of the time he felt lonely and isolated from his brothers and sisters. And so, she decided to create the axolotls to keep him company; small aquatic creatures that loved the humid weather conditions on the island where the God usually remained. However, more creatures would become aware of their existence and soon enough the axolotl became known as a delicacy among the Tabaxi and Aarakocras. They were hunted for their exquisite taste and vulnerability.

Mutation

When the Sahuagin arrived on the western side of Croland, they quickly found themselves to be running out of supplies. One of those supplies being food. That is when they came across the axolotls. Immediately after they decided to capture and breed the axolotls to keep the food supply up and running.
About a decade after that, the population of the Sahuagin was decreasing at a rapid pace due to their war with the local triton race; because of this, the breeders ended up with too many axolotls. Most breeders decided to kill them off, though others decided that they could possibly get better results from experimentation. And so, eventually, the axolotls became a mutated race. They grew limbs and their intelligence increased greatly. The newly created race was enslaved and used by the Sahuagin to do easy tasks for them so that the Sahuagin themselves could serve in the war.

The Axolotl Tribe

Some of the axolotls managed to escape the Sahuagin and created their own safe haven. A tribe of axolotls where they could live in peace and work on their newfound intelligence and wisdom. Sadly, they had to leave their less evolved brethren behind. Thus they made it their goal to free them from their bonds. These bonds being the captivity they are being kept in by the Sahuagin, but they also aim to improve their intelligence as well. So that they may evolve in the same way as they did.

Axolotl tends to have very cute names.

Axolotls share certain racial traits as a result of their mutations.

Your wisdom gets raised by 1 and your constitution by 2.

Age

Axolotls reach adulthood at 4 and can live up to 35 years.

Alignment

Usually, axolotls will be of good alignment., though they're not afraid to fight for what they think is right. Because of this some of them may shift towards chaotic alignments, whether that be good or neutral is up to them.

Size

Axolotls can grow up to 4 feet tall. Your size is small.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 25 feet and while in the water your swimming speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision

You can see in dim light within 60 ft. as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light (only shades of gray).

Amphibious

Due to their amphibious nature, axolotls can breathe underwater as well as on land. Though they will need to be doused in water once every three days or they will dehydrate and suffer severe damage to their skin. When this happens, you will get disadvantage on attack rolls without bathing in water.

Survival Instincts

After being hunted for several decades, the Axolotls have become quite a cautious race. Therefore, they gain proficiency in Survival and Perception.

Languages

You can speak common and aquan.

Rapid Regeneration

Axolotls heal very quickly and can stay in a fight a bit longer. You can use a Reaction when you are attacked to regain Hit Points equal to 1d10 + your con modifier. Once you use this feature, you must finish a Long Rest before you can use it again.

Adorable

Axolotls are very cute and they tend to get away with anything if they really put their heart into it. They have advantage in persuasion and deception. Once per long rest and can only be used if they are doing something cute.
