Homebrew Bearded Dragonfolk Species Details

Sobek, donned in hooded robes, entered the tavern. His magnificent beard hidden by the hood's shadow, he could have easily passed off for a lizardfolk or dragonborn. He senses that something's above him. A giant spider, he realizes. The druid he's been tracking for the last week has finally appeared. Sobek removes his hood, revealing his reptilian face. As his 'beard' expands, he sees fear in everybody's eyes. He couldn't blame them. It's almost impossible not to be frightened by his puffed- out beard. 

Lone Wanderers

Instead of living in clans like most other races, Bearded Dragonfolk prefer to wander alone. For periods of time they will raise their young but leave when they reach maturity. Bearded Dragonfolk sometimes settle down but only on rare occasions.

Fighting for Dominance

One of the primitive things that Bearded Dragonfolk still do is fight over females. Two males are rarely found together as male Bearded Dragonfolk tend to get along badly. If two male Bearded Dragonfolk end up meeting they will usually fight, to the death more often than not. 

Less Primitive Ways

The main distinguishing difference between the lizardfolk and Bearded Dragonfolk is that recently they have moved closer towards the more civilized other races. Bearded Dragonfolk have become far more intelligent than their counterparts in recent years and are starting to become more and more common in towns, villages and cities. 

Bearded Dragonfolk Names

Bearded Dragonfolk usually don't give last names and are thus known only by a single name, as they have no clan.

Male Names: Drake, Godzilla, Draco, Smaug, Rex, Dino, Sobek, Typhon

Female Names: Moon, Aurora, Viper, Eragon, Mushu, Eragon

 

Bearded Dragonfolk Traits

Being a Bearded Dragonfolk gives you many abilities. You can intimidate others easily as well as being able to sense your surroundings with a third eye.

Ability Score Increase

Your Charisma score increases by 2 and your dexterity score increases by 1.

Age

Bearded Dragonfolk mature quickly, reaching adulthood aged 14. They live shorter than average and rarely make it past 60.

Alignment

Bearded Dragonfolk still like to let their wild side loose and are usually chaotic in alignment. They are usually neutral too.

Size

Bearded Dragonfolk are taller and heavier than humans, averaging between 6-7 feet and 250 pounds.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet and your burrowing speed is 15 feet.

Beard Puff

When a Bearded Dragonfolk puffs up their majestic beard, it can frighten even the bravest warriors. As a bonus action, you may puff your beard up. While your beard is puffed up, your proficiency bonus is doubled for all intimidation checks and everyone who sees you must succeed on a DC (8+proficiency bonus+charisma modifier) constitution saving throw or be frightened for the duration. At the end of their turn they may repeat the saving throw, ending the effect and gaining immunity to Bear Puff for 1min.

Third Eye

Your tiny third eye can sense the location of things above you. You can sense the location of anything above you within a 15ft cone that isn't invisible or behind full cover.

Natural Armour

You have tough, scaly skin. When you aren’t wearing armour, your AC is 13+ your dexterity modifier. You can use natural armour to determine your AC if the armour you wear would leave you with a lower AC. A shield’s benefits apply as normal while you use your natural armour.

Proficiency

You are proficient with the Charisma (intimidation) skill.

Languages

You can speak, read and write Common and Draconic. Draconic is thought to be one of the oldest languages and is often used in the study of magic. The language sounds harsh to most other creatures and includes numerous hard consonants and sibilants.
