Homebrew Beastman Species Details

(if this makes little sense its because i want to homebrew a race for my paladin since my last homebrew is blocked because for some reason i can access my account. and my loads of homebrew there. so instead im forcing myself to be creative.)

You are a human who, for some reason or another, bonded with an animal at birth. (the animal has to be under challenge level 2, have intelligence under 3, and be in the beast category. it also has to be nonmagical. no giant eagles or winter wolves, it needs to be something on earth. and definatly no tressles or pseododragons.) you have a telepathic bond so long as you are on the same planet. 1/long rest you can turn into this animal, gaining its stats and abilities. you have plus 5 to whatever speed it uses(if it were a horse plus 5 walking, a mole plus 5 burrowing, a monkey plus 5 climbing, ect. if its something like a(n adorable) goose, which can both fly and swim, you can choose which or add 3 to both.). the animal gains 5 to its intelligence. +10 to its hit points and its goes up to 12 if it isnt already.

if it dies, you have to deal with the physcological ramafications and lose 5 hit points instantly, and one permanantly. if you die, it becomes a normal animal. but if your teamates can catch it and cast dispel magic, it will turn into you. you will have become a regular human. probably make sure your healer knows this so they get that spell. also make sure they arent a druid because that conversation wouldnt go well. "oh, you want me to kill this animal thats always been super loyal to you and helped you all your life so you can come back instead of hiring someone with a revival spell? yeah, sure, cool.". if your druid is anything like mine, they will possibly end you. and me, for making this a thing. shoot, fear the rise of the druids!

anyway, you speak common and one language of your choice. you also have +2 to constitution and +1 to either strength or dexterity, depending on your animal.(a cat would be dexterity and a wolf would be  strength. a lion would probabably be strength.)

because i dont know what animal youll choose i cant set things here. you can put the animal in your extras as a pet or beast companion or something else when you finish.
