Homebrew Dhampir Species Details

The half-living children of vampires born to living mothers, they are constantly feared and rejected. Their bloodline stems from the lines of blighted lands ruled over by vampire lords, but many a dhampir rejects their unhallowed heritage, some even turning to the service of the gods to redeem their bloodlines. Spotting a dhampir is nearly impossible, as they appear humanoid in almost all respects save for canines that protrude only the barest beyond normal.

Constantly struggling with their heritage, dhampir do thirst for the blood of mortals, but do not need it to survive so long as they keep a healthy carnivorous diet. They do not have the weakness to the sun of their undead fathers, but tend to avoid it anyway, keeping to a charming night life.

Charming Hedonists

Many a dhampir is naturally drawn to the allure of heavily populated cities and their bountiful night life. Their natural ability to charm those around them can often lead them to being a bit spoiled, not having to work as hard for an easy life as others.

Some dhampir try to emulate their abhorrent kin, propping themselves up as lords of the night and taking to even consuming human blood from charmed victims. Dhampir mages especially tend to form small cults of followers, utterly devoted to them.

Still others reject this lifestyle entirely despite its call, moving towards the austerity of religious life. These dhampir work towards redemption, some even going so far as to try and redeem their undead kin.

Dhampir Naming Conventions

Dhampir often adopt names and culture from their mothers, being raised far away from the realms of the dead or the crypts. On extremely rare occasions a vampire may recover their own child and raise it rather than kill it, giving it a name based on its own origin.

Dhampir Traits

Your dhampir has some traits inherited from their vampire kin, and others that are uniquely their own.

Undead Ancestry

You have resistance to necrotic damage and advantage on saving throws against disease.

Ability Score Increase

Your Charisma score increases by 2 and your Dexterity score increases by 1.

Age

Dhampir mature at the same rate humans do and reach adulthood around the age of 20. They live much longer than humans, however, often exceeding 180 years.

Alignment

Dhampir share an inclination towards neither the moral or immoral. As such they tend to be neutral alignments, showing no predilection towards chaos or law except on an individual basis.

Size

Dhampir are about the same size as humans, ranging from 5 to 6 feet tall. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision

You tainted ancestry gives you superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Bite Attack

Your fanged mouth is a natural weapon, which you can use to make unarmed strikes against a grappled target. If you hit with it, you deal piercing damage equal to your Strength modifier plus 1d6 necrotic damage. You regain hit points equal to the amount of necrotic damage dealt.

Predatory Charm

As an action, you can attempt to magically beguile the mind of one humanoid you can see within 30 feet. The target makes a Wisdom saving throw. The DC for this saving throw equals 8 + your Charisma modifier + your proficiency bonus. On a failed save any Charisma checks you make against the target for the next hour have advantage. If you or any of your allies damage the target, the effect ends. If the target's saving throw is successful or the effect ends, the target is immune to your predatory charm for the next 24 hours. A creature immune to being charmed is immune to this effect. You can have only one target affected by your predatory charm at a time. If you use your predatory charm on another target, the effect on the previous target ends.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and one extra language of your choice.
