Homebrew Clayron Species Details
Physical Description
Clayrons are clay-borne humanoids that are actually constructs. They often have dull red or tan earth-like skin. Their forearms are stocky and their hands are large. They are neither male nor female, and don't refer to themselves as such, preferring to focus more on individuality. Their faces often are very wrinkled looking hard, making them appear to lack emotion. Though they may get harmed, Clayrons don't bleed. They usually stand about 7 - 8 feet tall and weigh close to 400 pounds. They have almost metallic plated clay that makes up their chest, thighs, calves, and knuckles, giving the appearance of armor. Their eyes appear to made of liquid clay, constantly moving in a rippling motion. They have a molten core infused with magic surrounded by extremely hard clay plates and can also regenerate lost limbs, even their own head by finding a large deposit of clay, though if their core is destroyed they permanently die. They do not eat or drink, and do not even have mouths that open. They communicate telepathically, and can do so with small groups of 6 or less people at once.
History
Clayrons are supposedly a race coming from a time of arcana experimentation by a few Arch-Mages. While only a few dozen were made at first, it was quickly learned that they could create themselves through a sort of reproduction involving creating another body of clay and giving a portion or all of their core to the new body. It was shown that depending on how much of their core they gave, the better chance that a new Clayron was born. Fearing their creation even though the Clayrons were inherently peaceful, the mages destroyed a majority of them before the remaining Clayrons escaped and scattered to different parts of the world. As such, most Clayrons have a healthy distrust of mages in general, but still respect the magic that bore them into existence. They are often described as being gentle in nature, if not immediately destroyed by those that fear their appearance or mistake them for another kind of Golem.
Society
Clayrons usually live in structures similar to adobe. As they usually prefer to live in a mineral rich area, they know well about how to read the veins of material, how to excavate them, and what they are in their properties. Clayrons often trade sandstone and other minerals to merchants who peddle to rich families looking for natural décor. On their own, Clayrons live in solitary, usually nestled in canyons and chasms, but older Clayrons who have survived long enough have been known to have a small family. Because there is often a danger of water accumulating there at the depths, Clayron homes are often elevated on ledges carved into rock, as water is very dangerous due to their physiology. They are known for being a rather solitary race, preferring to be left alone. Usually the elder of the family units are the sole leader as they have a hierarchy based on age, as they believe aging brings them closer to true heritage with the natural world.
