Homebrew Calithar Vampire Species Details

Vampirism in the world that contains Calithar goes back, as do many things, to the time before the Sundering during the Age of Legends, specifically the Elvish Civil War.
Tiamat and Lolth made a deal whereby Tiamat would offer the Dark Elves a homeland, in turn Lolth would give a portion of her servants over to Tiamat as slaves.

Some of these servants refused and went rogue. These elves were hunted to the ends of Alambil by servants of both Lolth and Tiamat, but finally escaped (largely due to the start of the Dragonkin Wars). They knew however, long-lived as they were, that eventually they would die. And in death Lolth would be waiting, to claim their souls and punish them.

So they devoted their existence to lengethening their own lives. Finally they caught upon a secret, a secret using both magic and technology, that allowed them to extract the life force from the blood of another sentient being and use it to replenish their own.

They understood at this point they were going against the natural cycle of life and death, and so forswore all involvement with the Gods and retreated into the wilderness, seeking a life of solitude and pursuing their own fulfilment and purposes (whether it by intellectual, artistic, or sensual).

At first, they took blood from volunteers who sympathized with their cause. Later, as times got hard and they became more ostracized, they resorted to other means... modifying themselves to become formidable hunters to be able to keep supplied with the life force they needed.

There are 13 original Vampires, all of their names are a matter of legend. All have stories and tales surrounding their lives that would fill books. All are said to be cold blooded monsters and to have committed atrocities on a huge scale.

However how much of their legends are true, and how much is exaggeration, is up for debate... You have never met one of the 13. Your "parent" never has either. However, in a supremely dark period of your life, you wanted something so bad, so bad that you knew death could not even keep it from you. And so you made a deal, a deal to trade connection with the Realm of Fire, the gods, your family and culture, your nation, your race and identity for life. Life everlasting. And since then, have you looked back? Have you regretted your decision? That is for you to decide.

As an Unarmed Attack, you may bite an enemy creature that is not an undead, construct, or incorporeal. On a success you do 1d8 piercing damage, and gain 1d8 temporary hit points. This damage and hit point gain increases to 2d8 at level 6, and 3d8 at level 12.

Sunlight Adverse

In direct sunlight, you have disadvantage on saving throws, attack rolls, and all attribute checks. This effect is active even if you are completely covered in cloth or leather armor or clothing, however it is prevented by wearing a complete suit of plate armor with the visor down.
