Homebrew Slugcat Species Details

Slugcat

Searching for food for the day, a lone slugcat roams the jungle floor holding its spear close to its chest. Through the dense foliage it sees a small camp - a fire burns with the sound of jolly chatter. Enticed by the additional smell of food, it pushes through the leaves and cautiously crawls towards a hog roasting above the fire. Suddenly an arrow thuds next to the slugcat and alerts it to the few people watching it from their tents. Pouncing away instinctively, the Slugcat shouts in its best common “Am safe! Just hungry!”. With this, one of the campers - a short stout being with lots of hair under its mouth - calls out in a gruff voice “Sorry lil guy, can’t be too careful in this place” and throws a large chunk of the cooked hog to the slugcat. “Grateful, thank you” the slugcat replies as it comes out of the bush and starts to eat the meat, whilst the adventurers go back to chatting happily. Some days later it goes back to the same camp, finding the rotting corpse of the same being which tossed it their food. After a brief surprise, the slugcat decides it wants to find out what happened and leaves the jungle to find out what happened to the short time friend.

Slugcat Traits

• Slide: As an action the slugcat can slide half their walking speed in a straight line without provoking opportunity attacks, this movement does not count towards their total walking speed that turn and they end it prone. However, they can freely pounce out of this slide at any point without using their bonus action. • Pounce: As a bonus action while prone the slugcat can long jumps at double the distance they normally could without needing the run up, landing upright at the end with a Acrobatics check if needed. AC dependent on DM’s discretion. • Roll: If a slugcat drops 10 feet or more they can enter a roll as an action, reducing fall damage by half. The slugcat then forcefully rolls for 15ft in a straight line, at the end of which the slugcat lands prone. However, they can pounce out of this roll at any point without a bonus action.
