Homebrew Tulasarian Species Details

The Tulasarian are strange folks. I can hardly take all their yapping sometimes. Everyone sure loves their fur though, soft as a pillow. I'd love the fur too, if I could get some to sell...

Born in a mysterious druidic ritual far from civilization, Tulasarian are foxlike humanoids that long for conversation. Each Tulasarian has some kind of tall tale to tell to anyone who will listen. Charismatic, quick, and cool under pressure, the Tulasarian rarely stop talking. When two Tulasarian meet, the sound has been described as an ear-rending yapping as the two exchange tales and laugh heartily at each other's fortunes and mishaps. Their love for company, wild stories, and soft, fluffy fur make any tavern a place to remember.

Woodland Creatures

Most Tulasarian speak highly of the wilderness, and adore any opportunity to tell stories about the forest. They abhor any one who would harm the wildlife, and can be vicious like an animal when threatened.

Druidic origins

In a forest hidden within a forest, an ancient and long-forgotten ritual was performed to create guardians for the forest. A circle of wise druids came together, each with an animal they believed should guard the forest, and placed them into the magic ritual. Among the other animals, the fox was deemed most worthy by the forest spirit. From the ritual arose the Tulasarian. Their large ears, claws, teeth, fur, sensitive nose, and bushy tails remained as they took on a humanoid form, able to craft tools and engage in combat with weapons other than tooth and nail.

The Tulasarian were spread throughout the forest with their newfound intelligence. But with intelligence, comes curiosity. Some left the forest and discovered the world beyond, filled with other races and interesting places. The Tulasarian came to love these fascinating new experiences, and since have become more common in towns, typically seen having a lively conversation.

Soft Steps

Tulasarian possess many foxlike traits, such as a keen sense of hearing and smell. They are also very good at sneaking and stealing without being noticed, thanks to their soft fur and paw-like feet. A Tulasarian rogue could pick a pocket as easily as they might sneak past a guard.

Though most don't like to give themselves away, they might be so proud of what they steal that they could blurt it out in one of their storytelling sessions, and be chased out of town, only to show up again unnoticed and continue reaping the wealth of oblivious common folk.

Hunters of the Wild

The Tulasarian created weapons from the materials in the forest, such as bows and slings. Each one knew their bow like the back of their hands, and knew how to hunt prey in this new way. They still carry their innate skill with archery, and many always carry a bow with them.

They have great respect for all creatures, large and small, predator and prey. They see each one as a valuable life that makes up an ecosystem, and only kill them as mercy or sustenance.

Tulasarian Names

Tulasarian had no names for each other when they were born, each one innately knowing who they were. Those that wandered into civilization found pleasure in listening to tales of great heroes and dastardly villains, and will take on any name they find interesting. Males typically take on masculine names, and Females take feminine names, though they are known to do the opposite.
