Homebrew Demi-fae Species Details

To be greeted with stares and whispers, to suffer violence and insult on the street, to see mistrust and fear in every eye: this is a lot for a Demi-Fae. Forced to flee their home-world over ten thousand years ago, the Demi-Fae made their new home on Shenndor. Their strange appearance and unnatural powers leave other races uncomfortable at best with Demi-Fae. Demi-Fae who spend coin in a settlement are welcome for a time, but when an accident or crime happens in town, they are the first blamed.

Demi-Fae is the term used to describe a wide range of creatures that were forced to travel to Shenndor from another world over ten thousand years ago. The only consistent trait among each Demi-fae are their animalistic physical traits and their connection to otherworldly magic. Demi-Fae seem to have an ability to warp the natural world around them unconsciously, sometimes even affecting humans if there is repeated long-term exposure.

While commonly mistaken for Sidhe(Fae); hence the name Demi-Fae; they are not of similar descent. Sidhe find being mistaken as a Demi-Fae an "insult" and view Demi-Fae as unnatural outcasts of the world just as other races do.

The most human-like looking Demi-Fae subsist in small minorities found mostly in humans towns or wandering the wilds as outlanders, where they grow up to be swindlers, thieves, otherworldly druids, or rangers. Unfortunately a large majority are hunted down or sold as slaves in various parts of the world, as they are seen as the "pests" of the world or as "uncivilized monsters" by humans which make up the majority of the population on Shenndor.

Demi-fae Traits

Demi-Fae share certain racial traits as a result of their shared otherworldly ancestory.

Ability Score Increase

Your Wisdom score increases by 1, and your other ability score effects will be determined by your subrace.

Age

Demi-Fae mature at the same rate as humans but live a few years longer.

Darkvision

As the result of your animal eyes or maybe your otherworldly magical connection you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as though it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't decern colours in darkness, only shades of grey.

(Additional) Otherworldly Effect

The unnatural magic surging from your body occasionally will start to affect the world around you. When spellcasting, you will have to make a constitution saving throw to determine if you also have an effect on either the natural terrain or the people around you. These effects will be determined by a pre-made chart and your DC will be determined by your level, your emotional stress** in a situation, and your Consitution Ability Score.

Languages

You can speak, read and write Common and the language of the Demi-Fae.

Demi-Fae language is not a language of tongues, as it requires the two Demi-Fae to touch. Through this physical contact, the Demi-Fae can communicate to one another telepathically. No magic from Shenndor can interfere with this, decipher what is being said, or alter what is said between communicated. Only some Demi-Fae remember the language of their Old-World and teach it to their descendants. Any one who is not Demi-fae (or Demi-fae touched) cannot learn the language as it requires Demi-fae magic to do this. Even the name of the language cannot be spoken.
