Homebrew Warforged* Species Details

The Warforged may have been built to fight as artificial sentient warriors, but you sat in the shadows and watched as they marched to battle. Inspired, you --a small and weak mimic-- worked tirelessly to assume the Warforged stature. You appear as any Warforged might, of metal and wood, but beneath that veneer you are flesh and blood contorted into your greater form. You were not built, but simply wished to stop hiding.

Warforged* Traits

During your time mimicking Warforged, you have picked up a few peculiar tricks.

Ability Score Increase

Due to your uncanny ability to mimic any movement, behaviour, or habit with near perfect precision, you are far more charismatic than your average monstrosity. Your Charisma increases by 2 (two) points.

Age

You, as a mimic, are able to mimic a younger form of yourself. Thus, it is unknown to anyone what your true age is.

Size

You take the average size of the autonomous steel soldiers you watched march to battle.  You are between 5' 6" and 6' 5"

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Mimicry

To all onlookers, including party, this creature appears to be a Warforged. In actuality, it is an advanced mimic. Creatures with Truesight will see through the disguise and those with Tremorsense will detect the creature's heartbeat.

The player must exhibit all the same habits and routines as a normal Warforged:

  • You have advantage on saving throws against being poisoned, but you do not have resistance to poison damage.
  • You do need to eat, drink, and breathe; however, you must not be noticed doing such actions out of necessity.
  • You are not immune to disease, and matters relating must be secret.
  • You do need to sleep, but must never snore.

You are maintaining your mimicry in roleplay, do your best to convince those around you of your identity or their ignorance. If the ruse ever falls, The Reveal is automatically activated and everyone in line of sight knows your true nature

The Reveal

You can reveal your monstrous nature at any time, but must do so carefully. Once someone knows you are a mimic, they are not likely to forget. In battle, you may use this feature and gain an instant surprise round, but never sneak attacks. You may reveal yourself as an intimidation check to gain advantage against a creature who can see you and did not previously know your secret. This feature can only be used once against any unique instance of a creature.

False Protection

Mimics are uncomfortable covering up, but you have made certain exceptions.

  • You can only don armor with which you have a proficiency. Over the course of 1 hour you study the armor closely noting every detail and property, then you incorporate the armor into your physique. You gain all aspects and benefits of said armor, but the item is destroyed in the process.
  • While you live, your armor cannot be removed against your will.

Furtive Physique

You gain proficiency in Stealth and one tool proficiency of your choice.

Languages

Due to the peculiar way your visual cortex functions, you are simply unable to decipher the glyphs used in Common. You are able to speak Common just as well as any Native speaker, but you are illiterate. However, you have practiced Modron enough that you can speak, read, and write it.
