Homebrew Awakened Giant Badger Species Details
Giant badgers are much the same as their smaller cousins. They live solitary lives, dwelling in burrows and eating small animals. Giant badgers tend to be less agressive than their smaller kin, but can be just as temperamental once riled up. They are not easy to tame, but can become extremely loyal companions once befriended.
As an awakened badger, you have been gifted with intellect and speech.
Awakened Giant Badger Traits

Your Constitution score increases by 2, and your Strength score increases by 1.
Age
Giant badgers can live for up to 100 years, aging at about 1/4 the rate of a normal badger.
Alignment
Wild badgers are unaligned. As an awakened creature, you have whatever alignment suits your personality best.
Size
Giant badgers weigh around 100 pounds and are about 5 feet long. Your size is medium.
Speed
Your base walking speed is 30 feet. You can burrow through sand, earth, mud, or ice at a speed of 10 feet, but not through solid stone. Your burrowing may leave behind a tunnel, depending on the material you are burrowing through.
Darkvision
Badgers can see reasonably well in the dark. You can see in dim light within 30 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Keen Senses
Badgers are very alert and in tune with their environments. You have proficiency in the Perception skill. Your keen sense of scent gives you have advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on smell.
Bite and Claws
Your claws and bite are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with your claws, you deal slashing damage equal to 2d4 + your Strength modifier, and if you hit with your bite, you deal piercing damage equal to 1d6 + your Strength modifier. When you attack with your claws on your turn, you can use a bonus action to make a single attack with your bite.
Badger Form
You have difficulty holding weapons and tools made for humanoids. You take a -5 penalty to attack rolls or ability checks made using such items. You can use special equipment made for badgers without penalty, but such items cost twice as much as normal and it's very hard to find them for sale. A skilled craftsperson can fit a harness onto a magic weapon or tool, enabling you to use it without penalty. This costs as much as a normal non-magical version of the weapon or tool; for example, fitting a harness onto a +1 longsword would cost 15 gp (the cost of a normal longsword).
Armor made for humanoids doesn't fit you well. You're not considered proficient in a set of armor unless it is made especially for badgers. Such armor costs twice as much as normal and is very rare. Magic armor to which you are attuned resizes to fit you, as do other magical accessories and garments such as rings, hats, amulets, cloaks, bracelets, and boots.
Languages
As an awakened creature, you can speak, read, and write Common and one other language of your choice, although you find it difficult to hold writing implements.
