Homebrew Werewolf Species Details
After losing her brother Ernesto due to a failure of their wolf elixir, Luna, months later, manages to "successfully" create the elixir.
She was testing it on herself. While she waits for the effects, she remembers what her brother had done and how he lied to her. Knowing that if he hadn't lied, he'd still be here. Her anger grows. Looking down, she notices her hands look wolf-like, startled, she jumps, and her hands return to normal.
That created the Werewolf race, also known as Imperobos (Imobos for short). They are humans (or whichever is the primary race of your world) but are more comfortable in their wolf form, as it's less draining. They naturally have a small balance between their three forms (wolf, human, werewolf). One can be trained to properly control them from a young age.
Those that didn't get the privilege of learning to control their forms, stay most comfortable in their human form or get stuck in their wolf form. In contrast, trained Imobos will use their wolf form to drain less energy.
The werewolf form is triggered by anger/rage. In these cases, only the trained ones can fully control themselves while in this state of rage.
Appearance
For being werewolves, they appear quite normal in their human form. They aren't overly hairy nor have crazy facial features. The only thing that'd make them stand out is their height and natural build.
They come in any color of wolf: grey, brown, black, blonde, and white. With piercing eyes, usually reddish browns, golden, grey, or blue.
Wandering Outcasts
Most werewolves remain in their homeland, content to dwell in their packs. Werewolves hunt for food, craft goods, and essentially keep to themselves.
However, not all werewolves are satisfied with such a life. They seek a more "normal" life, where they can live with the other races, explore and expand on their hunting skills. In this manner, they remain isolated but never ignorant of the world beyond their home.
Natural Rage
They can only transform into their werewolf form when enraged. Giving you an advantage on Strength checks and Strength saving throws. When making an Unarmed attack using Strength, you gain a +4 bonus to the damage roll.
If you happen to already have the rage of a barbarian, you'll take that advantage on Strength checks and saving throws as a barbarian, and add a bonus of +2, plus your damage.
