Homebrew Dracotaur Species Details

A terrifying combination of two well-known races, the Centaur and Dragonborn, a Dracotaur is typically not something you'd wish to come face to face with. Their top half is comprised of a Dragonborn's upper body, with the lower body of a MASSIVE dragon-like lizard, lacking the wings to truly be called a dragon's body. Serrating claws, the ability to cast magic, brutish strength, it's hard to not be afraid of a Dracotaur.

Unknown Origin

How the Dracotaur came into being is unbeknownst to most who have heard tales about this beastly race, but rumors have gone around saying that they may have been made after the Dragonborn to further shape a creature into their likeness, with wavering success. Others have said that the Dracotaur came into existence when Tiamat herself needed a race to battle against her brother, Bahamut, and his legions of warriors willing to stand by his side in life or death. Some have even spoken about the Dracotaur being a so-called experiment, created by a mad wizard in a desperate and fleeting attempt to give something new to the world. The truth to this beast's origin still lies hidden somewhere...

Built for Companionship

Despite their menacing size, claws, and muscles, Dracotaur typically work well with people, acting much like how a Centaur would act in a mostly-humanoid civilization. Their large size means they can carry people and objects quite easily, providing a great means for travelling and moving items around, however, due to how rare a Dracotaur is, they're very rarely seen in even the biggest of cities, usually travelling on their own or with a close companion.

Dracotaur Names

Due to how rare Dracotaur are, they are typically not given names at birth. Despite this, people who have raised a Dracotaur before have given them names befitting of true dragons, no matter the gender.

Dracotaur Traits

Your curious heritage has granted you the beastly powers of a Dragonborn and Centaur, giving you incredible power.

Ability Score Increase

Your Strength score increases by 2, and your Charisma score increases by 1.

Age

Dracotaurs are slow-growers, getting the intelligence of a 10 year old human by roughly 15 years, and typically reaching maturity by thirty years of age, but can live up to 500 years in the right conditions.

Alignment

Dracotaur are one of the most neutral races due to a lack of conflict most of their life. They very rarely side with evil, and those who do are quite terrifying.
A typical dracotaur tends to be chaotic good or neutral, but very rarely evil.

Size

Dracotaurs are incredibly bulky and heavy, a typical 50-year old Dracotaur weighing in at around 500 pounds or even more depending on their body type.
Dracotaurs also tend to be rather large, reaching a minimum of 8 feet tall at maturity, with their drake bodies also reaching roughly 5 feet long at their tail base. Despite this, your size is Medium.

Speed

Due to your large stature, your base walking speed is 25 feet.

You have draconic ancestry. Choose one type of dragon from the Draconic Ancestry table. Your breath weapon OR damage resistance are determined by the dragon type, as shown in the table.

Draken Build

You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push or drag. In addition, any climb that requires hands and feet is a struggle due to your bulk and heavy weight. When you make such a climb, the speed requirement is doubled. You may also carry a companion that is your size or smaller, should they not exceed your maximum carrying capacity in terms of weight.

Claws

Your dragon claws are natural melee weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal slashing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.

Breath Weapon or Resistance

As a Dracotaur, your Draconic Ancestry isn't quite as powerful as other dragonborn. As such, you may only have the Breath Weapon or the resistance of your ancestry.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common, Draconic, and a Language of your choice.
