Homebrew Catfolk Species Details

All of a sudden, the hairiest - furriest? - man I'd ever met was handing me an exquisitely carved stone bird. It seemed like much too valuable a gift for delivering a basket of tomatoes. When I showed my friends in town the carving, they said they'd received similar masterful carvings in exchange for their simple acts of kindness.

Though little is known about the origins of the catfolk, some believe that they may be distantly related to elves and developed their feline traits in their transition through the feywilds. Others believe they originate from a tribe of humanoids who were blessed by a now-forgotten cat deity.

Cat-munity

Catfolk generally have little desire to roam and prefer the company of friends, family, and community. Many catfolk live in villages and towns with other catfolk or humanoids where they can raise their families communally, share in each others' curiosities, and always have a warm place to nap at midday.

Some catfolk eventually venture out on adventures or journeys to seek knowledge if something particularly piques their curiousity. Some catfolk undertake such journeys in groups or pairs, others decide to tag along with traveling adventurers that pass through their villages. They rarely travel alone.

Seasoned collectors

Aside from their desire for company, catfolk often settle down so that they have somewhere to put their various trinkets and gifts. They give and receive gifts freely as a show of affection, and a catfolk that has received a gift from a friend or loved one will keep it for as long as they are able.

Crafty catfolk will create elaborate pieces of art for their loved ones, and many become talented artists so that they can give their art as gifts. Their art is sought after for the care and attention devoted to it, but is extremely hard to come by for art collectors because most catfolk are strictly against selling their art.

Kitty Qualities

Though they are similar to humans in appearance, catfolk have feline traits that set them apart from their cat-less counterparts. They have pointed canines, furry ears that sit atop their heads instead of on the sides of their face, nonprehensile fuzzy tails, and usually grow more body hair than the typical human. They grow to be about five feet tall.

A catfolk's hair and fur is exceptionally soft and typically odorless, though this may be because they are particular about keeping up with personal hygiene. Their physical traits can range from that of the typical barn cat all the way to big cats like lions, tigers, and leopards.

Catfolk Names

Catfolk often take their names from the cultures they live around. In places where entire villages are made up of catfolk, they often take their names from nature or the things they enjoy doing.
