Homebrew Banshee Species Details

Physical Description

{{{3}}}
The noroweta banshee resembles a woman with blue skin and either white or black eyes. Their body tends to appear mangled and dismembered, limbs seeming to float in their natural places, sometimes contorting into positions the human body otherwise couldn't handle. Their skin tends to be white to pale blue in color, with red runes appearing on their skin rarely. Their hair is always black and appears as if its suspended underwater. Their movements are either very slow and calm, or erratic and twitchy, there is no in between.

History

The Noroweta Banshee are the souls of women who have lost their lives tragically among the Feywilds and thus are cursed with undeath. Most of the deaths are unjust, and if natural, is a tragedy. These creatures would then roam the wilderness until they found someone else in the Feywild, who they would ask if they had heard the screams of the woods. If the traveler said no, then the banshee would screech a pitch loud enough to kill the traveler, who the spirit would then consume. However, if they said yes, the spirit would cry, for their pain had finally been heard. Those who embrace the spirit would be befriended by the banshee, and either the spirit would move on to the next plane, or they would accompany the traveler.

Society

The noroweta banshees tend to be solitary creatures, keeping to themselves in the Feywild, drowning in their pain and tragedy. However, when they are accepted by travelers, they will stick with them, adventuring and traveling with them, protecting them from suffering the same fate as they have.

Noroweta Banshee Names

The most common names of the noroweta typically follow along with a similar pattern to the Human Shao names. However, occasionally they take the names that typically are given to Elves.

Banshee Traits

Souls bound by tragedy, and cursed with undeath.

Screams of the Dead

Any creature within a 15-foot radius must make a Wisdom saving throw equal to 8 + your Charisma modifier + your proficiency bonus. A creature takes 2d6 psychic damage on a failed save, and half as much damage on a successful one. The damage increases to 3d6 at 6th level, 4d6 at 11th level, and 5d6 at 16th level. After you use your scream, you can’t use it again until you complete a short or long rest.

Darkvision 60ft

You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Spirit Magic

When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the inflict wounds spell once and need to finish a long rest before you can cast it again. When you reach 5th level, you can also cast the misty step spell once and need to finish a long rest before you can cast it again. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells.

Floating Fear

This allows you to ignore most forms of difficult terrain and grants you advantage on saving throws against being knocked prone. However, you can float no higher than 5 feet and when you are reduced to 0 hit points you stop hovering.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Sylvan.

Ability Score Increases

Your Wisdom score increases by 2 and your Charisma increases by 2.

Spectral Visage

As a bonus action, you can enter a wall. You can stay and walk through the wall for as long as your hit points allow. The first turn in the wall does no damage, but after one round in the wall, you begin to gradually take 1d8 damage per turn. Once you reach 1 hit point or below, you are forced out of the wall to the nearest location and are considered unconscious if below 1 hit point. While in the wall, you can cast spells but take no melee or ranged attacks, the spells have a limited distance of 15 ft. from the wall.
