Homebrew Alloy Servant Species Details
"Alright, that should wrap up the last of it. Looks like it's good to go!"
"Why'd you even go through all of this trouble? It's a light bulb, it didn't need sentience." The scholar clad in blue and white asked.
"Well it can go and do whatever it decides eventually, but at least it was built with a purpose.
That's more than the rest of us can say."- Zane Chausser, Djari'n Metallurgist.
Built originally as helper devices without sentience, Alloy Servants are helpful and useful constructs designed for the betterment of the humanoid races. Since their inception, more adventurous magi-tech engineers and alchemists have been tinkering with perfecting sentient Alloy Servants, to mixed results. Built as tools and servants, the ones granted sentience and sent out into the world instead try and find their own purpose.
Djari'n Engineering
The Alloy Servant originated in Djari, the premier mining and mineral hub of Ahken' Aten. They were produced as smaller devices to help with menial tasks for the accountants and offices that could afford them, speeding up their work and making their lives a bit more comfortable. Since then both the trade and practice of making an Alloy Servant has only grown, more recently breaching into the realm of sentient devices. These sentient Alloy Servants only surfaced within the past decade, and are a subject of great controversy in their production. They have never made it to mainstream production due to their inefficiency after being given sentience, not matching up to the working standards and unquestioning loyalty that many of the clientele that bought the previous models cared for. Many argue shouldn't even legally be sold as product or valued with coin in the same way a non-sentient Alloy Servant would be.
Although they were manufactured, Alloy Servants are living humanoids as well. Resting, healing magic, and the Medicine skill all provide the same benefits to Alloy Servants that they do to other humanoids.
Alloy Servant Names
Alloy Servants are often given names by their creator, and thus defining common names for them is a bit of a difficulty. While it would be best to work with your DM in order to come up with a likely name or designation your creator gave you, it is important to keep the alternatives in mind.
Some sentient Alloy Servants choose to adopt new names of their own as they try and make their way through the world. Some keep their original designation, as decided by their creator. Some creators name their Alloy Servants in strange ways. Some examples are: fond memories; names they've heard and liked; number designations; names based on the creation's purpose; and names based on the parts used.
Alloy Servant Traits
Your Alloy Servant character has the following traits. These traits are present throughout the majority of standard models of Alloy Servants. It is still important to keep in mind the purpose for which you were made. Work with your DM in order to customize this baseline to fit you.Ability Score Increase
Your Constitution score increases by 2, and one other ability score of your choice increases by 1.
Age
Alloy Servants don't age in a traditional sense. The vast majority of them are under a decade old, as producing them beforehand would have been far ahead of their technology. The maximum age of an Alloy Servant is currently unknown, but many older models fall into disrepair under harsh conditions within 6 - 8 years. In addition to this, because of your manufactured process of aging, you are immune to magical aging effects.
Alignment
Alloy Servants can find themselves across the board in this field. Many of them have alignments that depend on their purpose of creation. Others adopt similar alignments to their creators, as they imprint on them early in their learning cycle. Though in the absence of outside forces, an Alloy Servant will trend more heavily toward Neutral alignments.
Size
Your size is small. The size of an Alloy Servant often varies. To set your height and weight randomly, start with rolling a size modifier:
Size Modifier = 2d6
Height = 2 feet + 5 inches + your size modifier in inches
Weight in pounds = 155 + (3x your size modifier)
Speed
Your base walking speed is 25ft, due to your smaller frame and build.
Lightweight Frame
You can move through the space of any creature that is of a size larger than yours.
Unique Composition
You were created using complex metallurgy and magic. These physical differences are represented by the following changes:
- You have advantage on saving throws to avoid being poisoned.
- You don't need to eat, drink or breathe.
- You are immune to disease.
- Magic cannot put you to sleep and you are immune to magical aging effects.
- You gain vulnerability to Acid damage.
Overcharge Subroutine
Once per turn, whenever you roll dice in order to deal damage to a single target, or in order to heal a single target, you may roll 2d6 and perform the following.
After seeing the result of the 2d6 you rolled, you may choose to take damage equal to the number rolled, and add that number to the damage or healing that triggered this feature.
If the number you rolled would cause you to become unconscious upon taking the damage or you choose not to use it, you instead ignore the number rolled and regain the use of this feature.
After successfully using your Overcharge Subroutine, you can't use it again until the end of the next long rest.
Inert Charging
When you take a long rest, you must spend at least six hours in an inactive, motionless state, rather than sleeping. In this state, you appear inert, but it doesn’t render you unconscious, and you can see and hear as normal.
Lesser Integrated Protection
Your body was not designed for warfare, but this can be amended to some extent using armour:
- You can don only armour with which you have proficiency. To don armour other than a shield, you must incorporate it into your body over the course of 1 hour, during which you remain in contact with the armour. To doff armour, you must spend 1 hour removing it. You can rest while donning or doffing armour in this way.
- While you live, the armour incorporated into your body can’t be removed against your will.
Languages
You can speak, read and write Common and one other Language of your choice.
