Homebrew Cauzerauti Species Details

Physical Description

The Cauzerauti are a monstrous race similar to Gnolls. They are large humanoid warthogs with brown or grey fur and piercing yellow eyes. They have humanoid hands with which they can wield a variety of weaponry and have powerful warthog hooves for feet. They possess long snouts and two large, warped tusks.

History

Long ago a powerful dark sorceress named Nruom tried to create an army of monsters with which to take over the world. Few of her experiments survived, but those that did became strong, hardy, and obedient. Thankfully for us, Nroum fell, but her warthog servants did not die with her. Having nowhere to go, the Cauzerauti fled deep into the forests of the world to avoid persecution for their dark origins. After millennia of separation from their dark master, the Cauzerauti grew into a simple tribal people and are no longer innately evil.

Society

Cauzerauti live in tribes of 25 to 30 individuals. A tribe consists of a Chieftain, a Shaman, 10-17 Warriors, and 11-13 Hunters. These villages are very small and do not have properly constructed buildings, only simple structures and several tents reserved for the Shaman and Chieftain. The Chieftain's rule is absolute, and they are only replaced when they either die of natural causes (In which case the two strongest members of the tribe are chosen and forced to fight to the death for the title) or if they are killed, in which the killer takes their place. If they were killed by a different race, it is treated as though they died of natural causes.

The Shaman is both the spiritual leader and the healer of the tribe, providing medicine for the wounded and helping their tribemates to further defile the name of the person who created them, often by scrawling her name onto objects and tossing them into a fire.
