Homebrew Betraskan Species Details

Environment

Betraskans are native to the Lush Underground, a type of cave system commonly found underneath areas with harsh living conditions, (tundra, deserts, etc.) In their culture, these areas are refered too as dens.

 

These expanses are known for their flourishing flora and fauna, of which cannot be found anywhere else. This life is able to flourish due to the majestic flowing waterfalls and streams that span throughout the region. This, as well as mineral rich soil and rock, beautiful glowing crystals, and delectable delicacies make the underground a Hotspot for tourism.

CULTURE

Betraskans, despite their tight knit communities and great focus on familial bonds, are known for being very friendly and welcoming towards visitors, and famous salesmen and barterers.

 

Because of this, the underground is famous for their 'night markets' which have people of every race, shape and size walking around.

These night markets are very famous for trading. Due to their anatomy betraskans typically do not venture to the surface, and usually use trading as a way to get new and exciting goods from the world up above.

Physical Description

Betraskans look like and are very biologically similar to humans. They are characterized by their lack of melanin due to an inability to process sunlight. Their skin appears very pale, sometimes even stark white. Their hair is typically very coarse and rough.

Because of the way they process proteins and calories to extend them from their history of living in less than habitable caves, they usually appear very gaunt or frail, with elongated and sharpened features.

When outside of the den, or just in an area such as the night markets with an influx of unnatural light, Betraskans typically wear a black type of contact used to block out excess light. These contacts are typically produced by human mages up on the surface.

Their actual eyes are very large, much larger than a humans. Usually pale, milky white or blue in color. With a notable lack of blood vessels.

Their eyes are very weak to light on their own, and if exposed to unblocked concentration of light; they can easily be blinded.

Affiliations

Betraskans are in especially good ranks with the humans. The human society were the first to make contact with Betraskans, and have always gotten on with them very well. Going as laying the building blocks for Betraskan trading with everyone by manufacturing and trading black contacts for their use.

Betraskans get along well with most other races, except for the Drow.

Since they both live in the cave systems there have been many territorial wars in between the two, with the drow stealing valuable resources from the Betraskan, and while not currently engaged in a war the relations between the two are still shaky.
