Homebrew Beholder Species Details

The most mad and unruly creatures known throughout the multiverse, the basic Beholder holds trust to few, not even themselves. Beholders often see other creatures whom do not appear similar to themselves as disgusting, with even other beholders who do not share its appearance being seen as inferior. Beholders are known for their shattered minds, with their emotions and motives being two different personalities fighting for control in their minds. Thus, it is recommended you refer to a Beholder by it’s full name, to not insinuate speaking to only one side of its personality. The rare “Sane” Beholder may still be paranoid, but “beholds” only one personality, and can still find the beauty of other beings. Though these Beholders rarely exist, all Beholders hold the defining trait of many eye stalks sitting upon its skull, of which can launch beams of varying magic effects.

Ability Score Increase

Your Intelligence increases by 2, and your Constitution increases by 1.

Speed

You have no legs, hence no walking speed, but float with a flying speed of 20ft (hover), but cannot fly more than 20ft above a surface.

Darkvision

Your massive eye allows you to see in the dark, you have Darkvision out to a range of 60ft.

Antimagic Cone

Once per day as a bonus action you can create a cone of antimagic. When you do, magic can not be cast by creatures other than you, and creatures you choose, in a 30tft cone in front of you for 2d4 rounds.

Eye Stalks

As an action, you can fire an eye ray from an eye stalk on your head. When you do, assign the eye ray to any creature within 50ft of you that you can see. A creature targeted by an eye ray must roll a Constitution Saving Throw (Dc = 8 + your Proficiency Bonus + your Intelligence modifier), receiving one of the following Conditions (at random) until the end of your next turn, on a failure: Charmed, Paralyzed, Frightened, Unconscious, Petrified, Stunned. You fire an additional ray with this action at the 6th (2 rays), and 14th (3 rays) levels. You may only use this action once per short or long rest.

Literally A Head

Due to your disposition, you have developed telekinesis to help you better manage your lack of a lower half. You learn the Mage Hand cantrip, and is Invisible when you cast it in this way. Your equipment instead floats around you, rather than you carrying it (it still counts as being carried). You are unable to benefit from armor, except shields.

Natural Armor

Your Ac is 12 + your Dexterity modifier. While Prone, and not wearing armor, your Ac is 10.
