Homebrew Slimeican Species Details

In the outer wilds of Destinovi'm, the wild elemental energies slowly influenced and morphed the various humans who attempted to settle there unprepared. Some of these humans attempted to use their arcane magic to study and experiment with the local wildlife, slimes. The arcane magic conflicted against the wild elemental magic for some time until the elemental magic began fighting back in defense of the slimes. These human became more like those they experimented on: malleable, gooey, and able to take on many forms.

Slime in Form

The Slimeicans learned over time that they would be able to use their new forms in unexpected ways. A clumsy individual learned through accident their ability to land from higher heights without fear of as much pain. A curious individual discovered their ability to fit into tight spaces and reattach broken limbs. One of the head mages of his time discovered their most amazing ability, to take on the appearance of most species known to them. Although their physical makeup did not change, their color, shape, and texture could be changed for long periods of time.

Gooey Outcasts

Although their physical transformation was incredibly unique and their new abilities interesting, the outside world back on the central continents did not favor their ancestral cousin's appearance or weirdness. Due to this, the Slimeicans were either judged by society or sometimes hunted for their peculiar nature. Although this prejudice has mostly disappeared over time, the Slimeicans mostly stick to looking like other races instead of their colorful and gooey natural appearance.

Whimsical and Lighthearted

One trait that typically shines through more than all others for Slimeicans is their whimsical and lighthearted demeanor in the face of oppression, struggle, and prejudice. Their resilience is not only found in their physical forms, but additionally in their mental fortitude. Depending on the tribe or group of Slimeicans, individuals range from joke tellers to encouragers by nature, but one consistency amongst all Slimeicans is their ancestral connection to the creativity of the Partu. They are often artistic, creative, or jovial, making a good friend, co-adventurer, or ally.

Slimeican Traits

Your Slimeican has a handful of unique abilities and a physical resilience matched by few others.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Ability Score Increase

Your Constitution score increases by 2, and your Charisma score increases by 1.

Age

Slimeicans mature at a similar rate to humans, reaching adulthood in late teens and living for nearly a century.

Alignment

Slimeicans tend to vary in alignment, but due to their whimsical nature, many lean toward a Chaotic alignment.

Size

Slimeicans vary widely in height and build, from 4.5 feet to 8 feet tall. When in their native form and in any transformation, their size is always medium.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write in Common and one extra language of your choice. This other language comes from the groups of people you either live around or hide around. Other than that, the second language can come from a personal study habit or a desire to be around a specific culture one day.

Squishy Landing

When you fall from a high enough distance that you would take damage, your mostly gooey legs are less likely to be hurt. You are resistant to all falling related damage.

Malleable Form

When attempting to fit into a tight space too small enough for medium sized creatures to fit, you can allow your malleable form to slide in between the cracks. The space must be at least one inch wide. When you do this, any transformation you are holding will be dropped, reverting you to your normal form.

Gelatinous Limbs

Once per long rest, you can use your gelatinous form to allow a powerful slicing or bludgeoning hit to cut through your form. This reaction can be taken once the damage of a hit has been announced. Whenever you take this reaction, your limb or body part (excluding your head) that is being hit will fall off your your body onto the ground. You will initially take all of the damage stated, but if you use your bonus action to reattach the limb, you regain half of the HP that was initially taken by the hit. When you perform this reaction under a transformation, you must attempt a concentration check to maintain the form. On a failure, your form reverts back to your natural appearance.

Transformational Form

Twice per long rest, you can transform your form into the appearance of any bipedal, medium-sized figure. If you drop unconscious, your form immediately reverts to your natural appearance. You can hold this new form for a maximum of 48 hours, upon which the transformation must be reinstated. The texture, color, and shape of your form changes to the new, desired form, making it nearly impossible to discern your true form without the assistance of spells such as True Sight. It does take an action to enter the form but can be dropped using your bonus action.
