Homebrew Yochlol Species Details

“The yochlols are the Handmaidens of Lolth — extensions of the Spider Queen’s will dedicated to acting as her spies, taskmasters, and agents of villainy. They attend their goddess in the Demonweb Pits, but Lolth sometimes dispatches yochlols to the Material Plane to guard her temples and to aid her most devout priestesses. Yochlols don’t form outside Lolth’s realm of the Demonweb, and they serve no demon lords except their queen.

Outside the Abyss, a yochlol can assume the guise of a female drow or monstrous spider to conceal its demonic form. In its true form, the fiend appears as a pillar of yellow slime with a single malevolent eye. In its drow and true form, a yochlol’s touch carries the same venomous touch as its spider form’s bite.” — 5e Monster Manual

Yochlol are strange Tanari demons, born either out of horrid rituals the Queen of Spiders Lolth inflicts on captured Succubi or as a gift to a select few followers. The latter is what this race is intended for, player characters turned into a yochlol by their actions, either as a reward or as a punishment.

Yochlol Traits

Your yochlol character has the following racial traits.

Ability score increase

Ability score increase. Increase one ability score by 2, and increase a different one by 1.

Size

Size. Your size is Meduim.

Speed

Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Superior dark vision

Superior dark vision. You can see in dim light within 120 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Poison immunity

Poison immunity. You are immune to poison damage and the poisoned condition.

Shape-shifter

Shape-shifter. As an action, you change your form to either spider, drow, or ooze form. Each form has unique traits, while some base traits change between forms. The appearance of your forms are consistent, meaning your drow form will always have the same height, proportions, number of limbs, hair, skin, slime, and eye colour.

Drow form

While in this form, you take on the appearance and shape of beautiful drow women, while in this form you function as a normal humanoid creature, you can use weapons, shields, and wear armor, unlike other forms. You are considered both a fiend and a humanoid while in this form.

Spider form

Spider form. While in spider form, your only limbs are your 8 spider legs and clawed palps you can use to interact and hold small objects, but you are unable to make weapon attacks outside of your natural weapon, wield a shield, or wear armor while in spider form. You also gain the following traits:

-Fangs. Your fanged maw is a natural weapon with the finesse property, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with it, you deal piercing damage equal to 1d6 piercing damage and 1d4 poison damage + either your Strength or Dexterity modifier.

-Natural armor. While in spider form, you have a natural armor of 16.

-Spider Climb. While in spider form, you can stick to surfaces as if you were under the spider climb spell, granting you a climbing speed of 30.

Ooze form

Ooze form. While in ooze form, you grow 8 tentacles that you can use to interact with and hold objects, but you are unable to make a weapon attack, wield a shield, or wear armor while in ooze form. Ooze form is considered your true form for the sake of spell effects. You also gain the following traits:

-Pudding Consistency. You can fit through and into any space that a small creature can fit in to. You have advantage on rolls to avoid or escape being grappled.

-Natural armor. While in ooze form, you have a natural armor of 15.

-Innate spellcasting. While in your ooze form, you can innately cast certain spells once you reach a high enough level once per long rest. At 1st level you can cast the gaseous form spell, while when you reach 3rd level you can cast Web and Detect thoughts as 2nd-level spells. At 9th level, you can cast dominate person as a 5th level spell. You regain the ability to cast these spell this way when you finish a long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells.

-Poisonous Touch. While in ooze form, any creature that grapples you or otherwise comes into direct contact with your ooze form must a Constitution saving throw against your innate spell casting DC or become poisoned for 1 minute. A creature poisoned  in this way remains poisoned until it is no longer in direct contact with you, if so then the creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.
