Homebrew Archane Species Details

“do you really not understand- do you know nothing of what he is? what he’s 𝙙𝙤𝙣𝙚?” she yells, wings furling out again for emphasis.

"I don't care! He's been nothing but good natured and unproblematic here. If anything, I'd say you're in the wrong, coming in, messing up the place." The prince says, taking more and more steps forward to put distance between her and the Archane boy, the sword held up to her chest.

The woman stops taking steps back. she actually smiles, almost laughs at the remark despite her tears. 

“what has he done?” she laughs, leaning forward into the blade. 

her Noise flashes red with images of a great chasm and cave. hundreds of Archane in chains. the lurking suspicion of an angelic guardian, too late realized before an attack. a crash. wings torn, brothers buried. the burning feeling of hurt and hatred for these people who have brought nothing but pain-

Archane are greeted usually with violence or mistrust- often mistaken for fiends or dark-spawn of some sort. Their appearance is not their fault- simply the way nature and evolution designed them in accordance with their homes deep under the earth.

Cave-Dwelling Species

They are vaguely humanoid beings with grey/purple skin. They have four arms and a set of dark pincers along their jawline. their teeth are on the sharper side and they have six eyes that are near completely black. They can see well in the dark but struggle with seeing in the light. Most Archane have black and white hair- and an appreciation for the art of complex braiding. They dress in muted colors, a humble species before they were discovered by residents of the overworld. 

Timid and Tough to Find

 

Archane are rarely found above ground. They usually exist in tightly knit colonies beneath the earth’s initial crust. Family is important to them- and an Archane being above ground alone will struggle and fail- likely falling into chains, blades, or extreme poverty. 

Archane are often sold into slavery for mining, their predisposition as “possibly fiendish” an excuse to put them in chains- and their expertise at navigating the underground making the job all the easier. More often than not, they stay close with those of their kind- and show kindness to those who are not well off.

Archane Names

Archane names are difficult to place, seeing as their culture is far from easy to observe- Archane above ground sometimes adopt names from the culture of theor surroundings as an attempt to fit in- Though, usually in a colony, names are chosen in a ceremony when the child is old enough to walk or climb. The name is chosen based on their interests and prophesied destiny. Names in this culture lack all sense of gender.

Archane mature at the same rate as humans but live a few years longer.

Due to their communal nature, most Archane are taught more Good characteristics as children. However, there are always some who stray from the path.

Archane are about the same size and build as humans. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision

Thanks to your cave-dwelling ancestry, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 80 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Blinding Light

Sunlight hurts your eyes a lot (disadvantage when in sunlight)
