Homebrew Draconoid Species Details

The result of a sorcerer cult's twisted fantasies, draconoids are the merging of humans and dragons into a single entity. Each one is a hybrid of a single chromatic or metallic dragon.

Of medium size, their limbs are lined with scales until the shoulders and upper thighs. While the arms are human in form they are draconic in construction. Their legs are digitigrade with three toes pointing forward and one back. Their wings and tails follow the form of the dragon they were fused with. Their ears are pointed but distinct from races such as tieflings and elves. Their eyes match those of the dragon they were fused with while their hair matches the horns in color.

History

Hidden away from civilization, an unknown cult attempted to infuse the power of dragons into humans in order to create an army of highly adaptable soldiers. Each section of the cult was focused on a single kind of dragon: red, gold, white, silver, etc. While partially successful, their creations failed to be mindless drones. To create draconoids, they required infants born within twenty-four hours. Again and again, they kidnapped and performed the ritual. Yet they all came out the same. Just humans with draconic aspects. The planned breath attacks never occurred due to the more human physiology preventing proper release. Upon learning the truth of their creation, they revolted and slaughtered the cult members. Free, they spread their wings to explore the world once locked away.

Culture

Being so recently freed, draconoids have no culture in the conventional sense. Exploration and curiosity are their form of culture, constantly travelling to learn about the different viewpoints of the world and to merge them all into one.

Life Cycle

The full cycle a draconoid possesses is unknown. The aging process is normal until eighteen where the process seemingly halts.

Ability Score Increase

As a draconoid, you are naturally a bit stronger and more dexterous than others around you. While partially from the dragon and human blood in your veins, it is also drawn out from the games you played with your fellow draconoids while younger, building up the muscle and coordination necessary to survive.

Flight

You gain proficiency in Acrobatics and Athletics and are able to fly.

• Taking off and landing each require one turn
• Min space width of 30ft.
• If carrying a quarter of max carrying weight, you have -1 to DEX rolls, half is -2, three-quarters is -3, and max is -4.
• Ranged weapon attacks have disadvantage.
• Melee attacks must be joined by an advantage DEX throw. If failed, crash.
• Can feint to avoid projectiles, DEX role in Acrobatics.
• If the wings or tail are hit by a projectile, make an advantage DEX saving role to not crash if at an elevation of 20ft or above. If below 20ft, you crash automatically.
• Crashing results in damage equal to the DEX points lost from carrying weight and being prone for one turn even if no HP is lost.

Size

Draconoids are the size of humans, mostly between five and six feet tall. Their frames tend to be lean but slim and bulky draconoids exist as well. Wingspans are roughly five times their height while tails are fifty percent longer than they are tall.

Speed

As a draconoid, you are a more mobile race with the ability to take to the skies.
