Homebrew Warforged Mimic Species Details
“Amazing!” Bert said. “A creature that's able to completely copy any humanoid made of artificial materials.”
“Shouldn't we kill it? It could turn on us at any moment.” Tari said.
“What makes you think I wouldn't?”
The warforged mimics were created to fight in Wilhelm's army. While the first warforged mimics were mindless creatures, created only to be tougher cannon fodder, they soon evolved to be much better at such things like retrieval and intel-gathering. An unexpected breakthrough produced sentient soldiers no longer driven purely by the need to feed, giving rise to a new population that not many feel that they can trust. Warforged mimics seem to be made from wood and metal at a first glance, but they are able to reveal a fleshy interior via their mouth. Created as weapons, they must now find a purpose beyond war. A warforged mimic can be a steadfast ally, a cold-hearted killer, or a visionary in search of meaning.
Living Steel and Flesh
Warforged mimics are formed from a blend of organic materials harvested from dead mimics, and inorganic metals harvested from destroyed constructs and warforged. Warforged mimics share a common facial design, with a hinged jaw and crystal eyes embedded beneath a reinforced brow ridge. Beyond these common elements of design, the precise materials and build of a warforged mimic vary based on the purpose for which it was designed.
Although they were manufactured, warforged mimics are living humanoids. Resting, healing magic, and the Medicine skill all provide the same benefits to warforged that they do to other humanoids.
Warforged Mimic Personality
The warforged mimics were built to serve and to fight. For most of their existence, warforged mimics had a clearly defined function and were encouraged to focus purely on that role. The fall of Wilhelm gave them freedom, but many still struggle both to find a place in the world and to relate to the creatures who created them.
The typical warforged mimic shows little emotion, but they do attempt to show enough to pass off as an average citizen. Not many warforged mimics embrace a concrete purpose — such as protecting allies, completing a contract, or exploring a land — and embrace this task. However, most warforged mimics who delight in exploring their feelings, their freedom, and their relationships with others. Most warforged mimics have no interest in religion, but some embrace faith and mysticism, seeking higher purpose and deeper meaning.
The typical warforged mimic has a sexless body shape. Some will ignore the concept of gender entirely, while others adopt a gender identity.
The more a warforged mimic develops its individuality, the more likely it is to modify its body, seeking out a person who has knowledge on how to customize the look of its original face, limbs, and plating.
