Homebrew Alraune Species Details

The first Alraune was born, at least according to the tales, from the blood of a powerful druid fallen in battle seeping into the soil of a plant. So magically infused was this magician that their blood irrevocably altered the very nature of all that it touched and so grew the Alraune. Plantlike, one can expect an Alruane to be found at home in the grasslands and forests, wandering alone or in small groups, but nature is hardy and varied and the Alraune likewise, having adapted to live in many climates - in fact, the only climates they can't abide are the fiercely cold.

"Perfect" Flowers

Alraune resememble humanoids in build, with leafy 'hair' of many varying shapes, waxy but maleable skin ranging from green to blue hues. They have larger prehensile waxy leaves that wrap around their legs and arms as form of natural armour and can uncurl as a vine. Their 'feet' are retractable roots and when not in use are hidden behind their curled leaves, ending in a point. Their eyes, akin to Tiefling, are sap-like with no sclera or pupil.

Like many plants, Alraune are both physically 'male' and 'female' having both stamen and carpels and culturally have no gender identity. They appear androgynous by Human standards but, as they can alter their own appearance through moving their leaves and even controlling the water in their body it is possible for an Alraune to appear more masculine or feminine over time, something more common with those among other cultures than those amidst their own. Their adorning flowers are often considered beautiful by other cultures.

Invasive Species

The Alraune are not prone to forming large communities, 'large' groups of Alraune number at most seven or eight, and as such don't see particular need to call any one place home. It's not unknown then for Alraune to simply wander from wood to grassland, into cities and then out, with little heed given to territory or border. It's not impossible however to find Alraune who have made a home for themselves amongst others and to stay there despite all their cultural upbringing, though those like this are a minority among minorities.
