Homebrew Christmas Elf Species Details

Cheerful, hard-working, and the embodiment of Christmas spirit are the Christmas Elves! They run most of the factory and shops in the North Pole. A select few are chosen to run Santa's Naughty and Nice list-keeping track of all the children of the world. They are small, spritely things with the propensity to take Christmas a bit too seriously at times. However they mostly love what they do, and respect the big man himself above all else.

Christmas Elf Traits

The embodiment of Christmas spirit, elves are made to be helpful in all areas.

Christmas Song

Once per day. The elf sings a Christmas melody. Every creature within 300 feet that can hear the song must succeed on a DC 11 Wisdom saving throw or be charmed until the song ends. The elf must take a bonus action on its subsequent turns to continue singing. It can stop singing at any time. The song ends if the elf is incapacitated.

If the charmed target is more than 5 feet away from the elf, the target must move on its turn toward the elf by the most direct route, trying to get within 5 feet. It doesn't avoid opportunity attacks, but before moving into damaging terrain, such as lava or a pit, and whenever it takes damage from a source other than the reindeer, the target can repeat the saving throw. A charmed target can also repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns. If the saving throw is successful, the effect ends on it.

A target that successfully saves is immune to this elf's song for the next 24 hours.

Ability Score Increase

Your Dexterity score increases by 2.

Age

Although elves reach physical maturity at about the same age as humans, the elven understanding of adulthood goes beyond physical growth to encompass worldly experience. An elf typically claims adulthood and an adult name around the age of 100 and can live to be 750 years old.

Alignment

Elves love freedom, variety, and self-expression, so they lean strongly toward the gentler aspects of chaos. They value and protect others’ freedom as well as their own, and they are more often good than not. The drow are an exception; their exile into the Underdark has made them vicious and dangerous. Drow are more often evil than not.

Size

Christmas elves rarely grow above 5 feet tall, with most being between 3-4 feet. You are small.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision

Accustomed to twilit forests and the night sky, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Keen Senses

You have proficiency in the Perception skill. How else would you know the toys are the perfect ones?

Fey Ancestry

You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can’t put you to sleep.

Trance

Elves don’t need to sleep. Instead, they meditate deeply, remaining semiconscious, for 4 hours a day. (The Common word for such meditation is “trance.”) While meditating, you can dream after a fashion; such dreams are actually mental exercises that have become reflexive through years of practice. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Elvish. Elvish is fluid, with subtle intonations and intricate grammar. Elven literature is rich and varied, and their songs and poems are famous among other races. Many bards learn their language so they can add Elvish ballads to their repertoires.
