Homebrew Yuan-ti Species Details

There are multiple types of Yuan-Ti. To put it plainly, these creatures are a mix of a serpent and a human. Some of the Yuan-Ti look more like snakes than others do, and some look more like humans, being nearly indistinguishable. There are three main types of Yuan-Ti the Abominations, the Malisons, and the Pure Bloods. The Abominations pretty much look like giant snakes with arms. These are the strongest of all of the Yuan-Ti, and some might think that they are the most gifted and devoted to the serpent gods. The next type are the Malisons, who have the head of snake, arms that are snakes, or a serpent bottom instead of legs. These Yuan-Ti are typically more dexterous ones. Lastly, the Purebloods are the most cunning and human-like of the Yuan-Ti, often looking exactly like humans except for slits for eyes and occasional scales.

Yuan-ti Traits

These half-serpent-half-human creatures were just part of a cult, but they became so much more.

Ability Score Increase CHA

Yuan-Ti gain a +2 CHA increase at creation.

Ability score increase WIS

Yuan-ti gain a +2 to Wisdom.

Magic Resistance

Magic Resistance is very powerful. It’s so good that this racial trait alone is the reason why some consider the Yuan-ti Pureblood to be an overpowered race in 5e. Having advantage on all saving throws against spells makes it far less likely to be hit by them. Purebloods also have advantage against “other magical effects” which can cover a very broad range of threats a DM might throw at you. In essence, this race has advantage against all magic, an ability that is usually only found on extremely rare or legendary items.

Snake's Cunning

You have advantage on all IntelligenceWisdom, and Charisma saving throws against magic.

Innate Spellcasting

Yuan-ti Purebloods come preloaded with spells, but unfortunately they are extremely limited in their usefulness.

Darkvision

You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Natural attack

Yuan-ti can use their tails as weapons!

Poison Immunity

You have resistance to poison damage, and you have advantage on saving throws against becoming poisoned.
