Homebrew Carthean Species Details

Fetid creatures, they smell worse than they act and there's a reason we lock them up more than any other group in the city. I've never seen more explosives than in a Carthean's home. Whichever deity decided to grace the world with those creatures is clearly trying to **** with us.

Sneaky Sneaky...

Cartheans are naturally sneaky creatures, living in the sewers, vents, and nooks and crannies of homes, and cities. Due to their generally negative connotation and smelly disposition Cartheans go out of their way to remove themselves from normal society, hiding in the places most people forget.

Carthean society is built on a strong sense of self, if you can't hide, you cannot survive and so the clumsier Cartheans rarely make it in Carthean culture.

Natural Spies

Due to their natural sneakiness Cartheans have been a handy notch in the toolbelts of the powerful and secretive members of high society who wish to know things they arent necessarily privy to.

Cartheans are capable of hiding in the smallest of places despite their usual size, their fur and muscles are highly compressible making their sneaking capabilities extraordinary, combined with their knack for perception, they make natural eavesdroppers.

Outcasts

As social outcasts, Cartheans rely on sheer talent and usefulness to integrate themselves into any meaningful relationships with other races. Being an adventurer is a common destiny for Cartheans as taking up odd jobs and using particular skills is a mainstay of Carthean culture.

Carthean Names

Carthean names describe their purpose in life and commonly double up on certain words. Their language is harsh and names are short and to the point because of this. Carthean surnames are representative of a group of others they share a common goal with, such as the numerous headtaker clan, known for their more elicit dealings.

Carthean Traits

Your Carthean character has the following racial traits.

Ability Score Increase

Your Dexterity score increases by 2, and your Intelligence score increases by 2 but your Charisma score decreases by 1.

Age

As humanoids, Cartheans live a fair life for most races however due to the nature of their lifestyle have a slightly shorter lifespan. They mature to adulthood at 10 years old and generally live until they're around 75.

Alignment

Cartheans are very self serving, survival is a key priority for them and as such, they generally lean towards a chaotic nature, wether a Carthean is good or evil is dependant on their work path.

Size

Cartheans are similar to humans except they hunch, unhunched they can reach up to 6ft but sit at roughly 5ft tall. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet. You can climb most surfaces up to about 10ft with ease.

Nooks and Crannies

Despite their size Cartheans are capable of reaching into all those nooks and crannies most other races cant. You can fit into spaces small enough for one size smaller than you.

Sneaky Sneaky

As a bonus action, you can magically turn invisible until the start of your next turn or until you attack, make a damage roll, or force someone to make a saving throw. Once you use this trait, you can’t use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

I was hiding!

Cartheans can be very energetic, despite their usually sneaky behaviour, this causes a burst of energy to erupt after periods of quiet.

If sneaking for more than a minute, once stealth is broken a Carthean is able to take an extra bonus action on the same turn that they have broken stealth. This feature can only be used once per long rest.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common, Undercommon and Sylvan
