Homebrew Dentro Species Details

The urge to explore the most dangerous reaches of the universe is one that some people simply cannot ignore, yet the need for safety and security is one that cannot be ignored either. These two conflicting urges pushed for multiple humanoid races to begin to evolve, resulting in the Dentro, a race of naturally stealthy people gifted with illusory magic.

Master Adapter

The Dentro tend to take on the physical appearance of the place that they are originally from, helping them hide and blend in when necessary. Dentro who hail from forested areas tend to have bark-like skin (both in color and texture), leafy green hair, and ears that resemble plants while Dentro who come from more industrial areas tend to have more gray, smoky skin, oil slick hair, and ears resembling metal cuffs or metal contact points.

The Language of Illusion

The Dentro evolved from other humanoid races, as they moved to inhabit the most dangerous reaches of the galaxy. This created both their chameleon-like appearance, but also their advanced method of communication. All Dentro do not communicate with each other through speech, opting to use their illusory talent to communicate instead. The Dentro language is one that is purely visual, and their history is one that is passed down through stories as opposed to being written down and saved. This helps them remain stealthy, as they avoid the more dangerous inhabitants of their homes.

A Galaxy Explored

Some Dentro have begun to spread out across the galaxy, leaving their home planets and finding community in other places. For those who find places similar to those their ancestors are from, they find themselves blending in easily, but for those who don’t, they tend to stick out like sore thumbs. Dentro who move from their original home and have children will find that their children take on the characteristics of the place where they are born, instead of looking like their parents.

Dentro Traits

As a Dentro, you have the following racial traits.

Age

When they first emerged, Dentro kept the lifespan of their parent races, but now, their life spans have averaged out. Dentro mature at age 20, and can live up to around 120 to 150 years old.

Size

Dentro can run the gambit of sizes, from the shortest being just under 5 ft and the tallest being just over 6 ft. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

True Sight

You are exceptionally gifted at seeing through illusions. Once per long rest, you can activate this ability as a bonus action and gain true sight for a 10 ft radius for a minute.

Astute

You gain proficiency in the insight skill.

Mirage

You have developed beyond the need to communicate through speech and sound. As an action, you can create up to a 5ft cube of images of sound and light that you can conjure at will, however you cannot summon the images further than 10ft from you. You can use these images to communicate simple ideas to those who are not familiar with the Dentro language.

Natural Born Skulker

You can hide as a bonus action.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and two other languages. Additionally, you are able to communicate through illusions with other members of the Dentro race.

Ability Score Increase

Your Dexterity and Wisdom scores increase by one.
