Homebrew Ant-Folk Species Details
The Ant-Folk (also known as Odonto), are insect humanoids bearing a high resemblance to ants. They are known for being independent from one another, each individual queen having their own separate society from others. Queen Odonto's will give birth to small infertile workers that serve as protectors and servants for the queen, gathering food and constructing burrows for her use. These minions act less like individual beings and more like extensions of the Queen's body that can move interdependently from her. Queen Odonto's will eventually give birth to male and female alates, which are fertile and possess wings. Immediately after birth, they will fly away from the queen to find alates from other Odonto's and mate with them, after which the males die. The females lose their wings and become queens, now able to produce minions of their own, and eventually more alates.
Ant-Folk will often establish nests to live in that they guard with their minions. These nests are usually located in forests or plains outside villages and settlements, but more progressive Ant-Folk have established nests in houses within villages, as a step towards integrating themselves into other humanoid's societies.
Ant-Folk are somewhat small, but possess dangerous mandibles. They are often black in coloration, but some are red, some yellow, and a few sport colorful patterns on their exoskeleton.
Ant-Folk Traits
Small but dangerous, Ant-Folk often rely on their worker minions to assist them in tasks and combat.Ability Score Increase
Your Strength score increases by 1 and your Charisma score decreases by 1.
Age
Ant-Folk live around 30 years. They are born as adults, (having been developed as larvae within their mothers) and fly to find a mate immediately afterwards. They typically start producing fertile children after 10 years.
Alignment
Ant-Folk are usually very isolated from other Ant-Folk, seeing them only as possible threats. This somewhat carries over to other races, but to a lesser extent. There are cases of Ant-Folk being friendly towards one another, although it is rare. Because of this, their social structure usually just consists of themselves and their children, making it hard to integrate in some societies. Thus, they tend to lean towards Chaotic alignments. They are also often neutral with respect to Good and Evil.
Size
Ant-Folk are typically on the shorter side, averaging around 3 to 4 feet tall. However, certain breeds can be as tall as an average human. Your exoskeleton makes you lighter than the average humanoid, as a result, most Ant-Folk weigh around 50-70 pounds. Your size is medium.
Speed
Your walking speed is 25 feet.
Antennae
You possess a pair of antennae on your head, which allow you to sense your surroundings more easily, noticing subtle nuances that may not be easily detected to the naked eye. As a result, you gain proficiency in Perception.
Bite
You possess a dangerous set of mandibles. Instead of an unarmed strike, you may choose to bite a foe with these mandibles, dealing 1d4 + your Strength Modifier in piercing damage.
Create Minion
As an action, you can give birth to an Ant-Folk minion to assist you. You cannot move on your turn when this action is taken, and you cannot take this action if you have already moved on your turn. The minion is created in your space or one adjacent space (your choice). Created minions are controlled by you, and take their actions at the end of your turn. Ant-Folk minions die naturally 8 hours after creation. You have a number of expendable minion points equal to your class level, which are replenished after a long rest. There are different varieties of minions you can create, each consuming a different number of minion points. They are listed below.
