Homebrew Corrupted Variant (Half-Elf) Species Details
AppearanceTo most, corrupted (half-elves) look like pale skinned elves. In height, they’re on par with both parents, though they’re neither as slender as their vampiric parent, nor as broad as their elven parent. They range from under 5 feet to just over 6 feet tall, and from 100 to 180 pounds, with men only slightly taller and heavier than women. Corrupted (half-elf) men do have facial hair, and sometimes grow beards to mask their vampiric ancestry. Corrupted coloration and features lie somewhere between their vampire and elven parents, and thus show a variety even more pronounced than that found among either race. They tend to have the eyes of their vampiric parents.
Diplomats or Wanderers
The Corrupted have no lands of their own, though they are welcome in most cities, somewhat less so should their neighbors learn of their true lineage. In large cities and regions where exotic and more common folk interact often, corrupted are sometimes numerous enough to form small groups of their own. They enjoy the company of other half-breeds, the only people who truly understand what it is like to live between two worlds.
In most parts of the world, though, Corrupted are uncommon enough that one might live for years without meeting another. Some may even prefer to avoid company altogether, wandering the wilds as trappers, foresters, hunters, or adventurers and visiting civilization only rarely. Like elves, they are driven by the wanderlust that comes of their longevity. Others, in contrast, throw themselves into the thick of society, putting their charisma and social skills to great use in diplomatic roles or as swindlers.
Corrupted Names
Corrupted (half-elf) use either vampiric or elven naming conventions. Corrupted raised among humans are often given human names, and those raised among vampires often take vampiric names.
EXCELLENT AT SOCIAL INTERACTION
Corrupted are forced to learn at an early age to get along with others, defusing hostility and finding common ground. As a race, they have vampiric grace without dark behavior and human or elven energy without their boorishness. They often make excellent ambassadors and go-betweens (except between vampires and mortals, since each side suspects them of favoring the other).
Corrupted Variant (Half-Elf) Traits
Your character has some qualities in common with half-elves and some that are unique to vampire offspring.Ability Score Increase
Your Charisma score increases by 2.
Your Strength score increases by 1.
Age
Corrupted reach physical maturity at the same rate as humans, but find that understanding of the world takes much longer to reach. Following their parents philosophies, they claim adulthood closer to 100 years, and can typically live up to 800 years depending on the strength of their vampiric parent.
Alignment
Corrupted love freedom and self expression, so they lean towards a stronger aspect of free will. The harsh judgement of others can easily sway a Corrupted's alignment towards evil, though they have been known to use their longevity for good.
Size
Your size depends entirely on your parents, though most range from under 5 feet, to just over 6 feet tall. Your size is Medium.
Speed
Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Darkvision
Thanks to your vampiric blood, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 120 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Vampiric Ancestry
- You are a creature of the night. Once per Long Rest and while the suns are down, as a Bonus Action you can turn to mist and teleport up to 60 feet to a point that you can see.
- Your vampiric ancestry allows you to slowly regenerate. During a Long Rest you may find a place hidden from sunlight and spend at least 6 hours sleeping, during this process you will regain 3d6 Vitality Points. (Assuming you've consumed your daily intake of blood prior to sleep.)
- You cannot be put to sleep magically.
- Sunlight Sensitivity. While in sunlight, you have disadvantage on attack rolls, as well as on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight.
- Corrupted are influenced by their bloodline and do not need to sleep, instead requiring an intake of blood to stave off exhaustion. Once per long rest, you must spend at least 4 hours slowly ingesting at least 8oz. (One Flask, or 1/2 Pint) of humanoid blood or suffer one level of exhaustion. Unlike true vampires your body can only process up to a certain amount, as such, drinking more than 8oz. has no added benefits. For example: A waterskin can last a corrupted roughly a week before needing to find more.
- Like your ancestors, you can use your teeth with violent intent. You have the ability to make a bite attack against either a willing creature, a creature that is charmed or grappled by you, or a creature that is Incapacitated or restrained. You can use your Strength or Dexterity for your bite's attack roll. On a hit, your bite deals Necrotic Damage equal to 2d6 plus the ability modifier used to make the attack roll. You may also choose to gain temporary HP equal to the amount of necrotic damage dealt with this attack. You may gain temporary HP from this trait once per Long Rest. This ability negates the need for blood for the day.
- At night, there is a noticeable increase in the population of bats near you.
