Homebrew Brachyu Species Details

The Brachyu are a race of crustaceans native to the coasts of Vodrozo. They live in large settlements, living in weaving tunnels and structures made of mud and sand that they make with their claws. They're incredibly social and value community above all else, and through millennia of interaction with others, they are an incredibly diverse group. Brachyu range from three-foot-tall hermit crabs and lobsters to larger bipedal crustaceans, but most are somewhere in the middle, standing on four legs.

They speak a language of clicking and snapping, made entirely from their smaller claw. Creatures that aren't Brachyu can imitate rudimentary language but aren't able to become proficient without an item that can imitate the snapping claws.

Brachyu Traits

Built to survive in the harsher environments of the coast, the Brachyu have many skills in their arsenal.

Natural Armor

Brachyu exoskeletons are incredibly hardy, even on the smallest and weakest of Brachyu, helping them survive in the rocky waters and tunnels. AC is 17 without armor, regardless of dexterity modifier.

Clawed Fighter

Every Brachyu has two claws instead of hands. One is relatively small, meant for delicate work and day-to-day work. The other is much larger and is meant almost entirely for attacking. Take one action to attack with the claw, dealing a fixed 7 or 1d10 slashing damage.

Sideways Crawler

When moving directly and only left or right on any terrain, movement speed increases by ten feet.
