Homebrew Winter Werewolf Species Details

History
Winter werewolves are not "real" lycanthropes, but they have lycanthrope blood in their veins. In the past there was a variation of the wolf lycantropy: the winter wolf lycantropy. These werewolves happened to be much less violent than the usual ones, they were less chaotic... This contributed for the curse to not spread fast enough among other people, as the cursed ones would travel to some cave during the full moon and stay there causing no harm to their families and communities.

These real winter werewolves still exist in some places but they are rare; the new generations are much more common and although not full lycanthropes, they are still quite powerfull.

Because of their hybrid natures they can't change between wolf, humanoid and hybrid form; instead they are permanently in a hybrid form that has mixed traits of humans and winter wolves.

These new generations of hybrids sometimes fail to control their natural violence, but in general they are not innately bad or evil and generally try to fit into society. Although they are treated with suspicion by many people because of their monstrous nature, those who have been brought up close to humans since their childhood often become dear to the nearby community and will both protect the people and be protected from prejudice from outsiders.

Winter Werewolf Traits

bleh

Darkvision

A werewolf's eyes are naturally inclined to see in the dark. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Silvered Weakness

You have vulnerability to attacks from silvered weapons and ammunition.

Wolf Form

A werewolf in their wolf form becomes a — wolf! Stronger than the average wolf.

Shapechanger

You can evoke your bloodline as an action and transform into your wolf form. You may do this a number of times equal to your proficiency score, requiring a short or long rest to replenish uses. Under a full moon, you will automatically transform. Make a Wisdom saving throw (DC 15), becoming your wolf form on a failed save for the rest of the night. Make it with disadvantage if engaged in combat. It is at the DM's discretion if and when you should repeat this saving throw.

Claws and Fangs

The damage die for your unarmed strikes increases to a d4, and you can choose to deal slashing or piercing damage instead of bludgeoning damage.

Cold Resistance

You have resistance to cold damage.

Lycanthropic Toughness

While in hybrid form, you gain resistance to nonmagical melee damage (bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing). Should you receive damage from a silvered weapon, the triggering damage will not be halved and your Lycanthropic Toughness resistances will not work until the end of the your next turn.

Keen Senses

You have proficiency in the Perception skill.

Winter Wolf language

Winter Wolf language. You can speak with winter wolves, wolves, dogs, and similar creatures of the Canis family as if you shared a language. You have advantage on Wisdom (Animal Handling) checks involving those creatures.

Improved powerful build

While in hybrid form, you have advantage on all strength checks and saves.

Thick hide

While in hybrid form, your natural becomes AC 13 + your dex mod (regular armor for humanoids fall off during transformation)
