Homebrew Canus Species Details
Canus were originally a an experiment gone wrong by a wizard, history states the first one was created in an attempt to revive the wizard's companion by sacrificing an infant human. Instead of the intended effect the bodies were merged and the wizard found himself caring for a hybrid of a human and a canine. The first of their kind was known as Max, he had a pug like face and breathing problems. The wizard was surprised by the stupidity of Max and thus hired several townsfolk to procreate with him, their offspring had a much more human-like intelligence though kept the breathing problems. So then the wizard was decided to breed the offspring with canines... though the outcome produced the desired traits, the mother canines would not survive long after giving birth. The wizard then deemed it taboo to all canus' to ever breed with canines again. As time went on many canus held true to the commandment given to them by their creator.
Canus are typically very optimistic folk, they make friends quickly and are loyal to their superiors until the end. They have an innate goodness in their hearts and are rarely made upset by words. However any of their kind who would breed with canines are shunned, or exiled by their pack, sometimes the canus will kill the heretics who would break this oath. Canus see canines as a sort of precursor, and worship them, so when another of their kind breaks this oath they are essentially killing a high-ranking member of their society.
