You are a Humanoid, and optionally up to two further creature types in addition to Humanoid.

Every creature in D&D, including every player character, has a special tag in the rules that identifies the type of creature they are. Most player characters are of the Humanoid type. A race option presented here tells you what your character’s creature type is.

Here’s a list of the game’s creature types in alphabetical order: Aberration, Beast, Celestial, Construct, Dragon, Elemental, Fey, Fiend, Giant, Humanoid, Monstrosity, Ooze, Plant, Undead.

These types don’t have rules themselves, but some rules in the game affect creatures of certain types in different ways. For example, the text of the cure wounds spell specifies that the spell doesn’t work on a creature of the Construct type.

For a creature of more than one type, they are affected by any effect that could affect one of the types they possess. So, cure wounds fails against a pure Construct, but does not fail against a Humanoid Construct.

You are Small or Medium (your choice).

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

One Ability Score of your choice increases by 2 and one other by 1, or three different ones by 1.

You gain two of the following options of your choice, and cannot select the same option twice:

(a) Increase your Armor Class by 1 while wearing no Armor (shields apply as normal)

(b) Increase your Maximum Hit Points by your level, with you gaining 1 Max HP each level after this

(c) You gain 1 more Language

(d) You gain 5 Speed

(e) You gain Advantage on Death Saving Throws

(f) You are Amphibious, able to breathe air and water

(g) You gain one Cantrip of your choice, with your Spellcasting Ability being your choice of Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma

(h) You gain Darkvision with a range of 60 feet

(i) Add 1d4 to your Initiative

(j) You are a Mountainborn and acclimated to high altitude, including elevations above 20,000 feet.

(k) You gain a Natural Weapon that uses a d4 for damage die and deals your choice of Bludgeoning, Piercing, or Slashing Damage, with your choice of one additional property for it: Finesse, Temporary HP equal to Bludgeoning, Piercing, or Slashing damage dealt, or 1d4 Poison Damage on Hit

(l) Double your Carrying Capacity with Powerful Build

(m) You gain Proficiency in one skill of your choice

(n) You gain Resistance to one of these types: Acid, Cold, Fire, Lightning, Poison, or Thunder

(o) You gain one level 1 Ritual Spell you can only cast as a Ritual, with your Spellcasting Ability being your choice of Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma

(p) You Gain Advantage on Saving Throws against being Paralyzed, Petrified, or Stunned

(q) You gain a Climbing or Swimming Speed equal to your Walking Speed

(r) You don’t need to eat, drink, or sleep due to your Strange Nature.

You cannot take one option twice.

You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language that you and your DM agree is appropriate for your character.
