Homebrew Alnaas Species Details

The Alnaas once ruled the entire continent from the island of Jayiza, in the middle of Mahjura -- the heart of Al'iimbiraturia, their fallen empire.  In the current era, Mahjura is somewhat of a no man’s land.  For reasons unknown, one day the Alnaas simply disappeared from this plane, leaving a vast power vacuum in their wake.  There are still some Alnaas living on this plane, though they are relatively rare and tend to be solitary.  Mahjura itself is a war-torn land, as various factions vie for control.

From below, Alnaas look much like large birds. Only when they descend to roost on a branch or walk across the ground does their humanoid appearance reveal itself. Standing upright, Alnaas are shorter than most humans; the tallest among them might reach 5 feet tall, and they have long, narrow legs that taper to sharp talons.  Feathers cover their bodies., in a full range of colors -- though males tend to be more brightly colored, while females have more subdued colors.

Nowhere are the Alnaas more comfortable than in the sky. They can spend hours in the air, and some go as long as days, locking their wings in place and letting the thermals hold them aloft. Once airborne, an Alnaas leaves the sky with reluctance.

The resemblance of Alnaas to birds isn’t limited to physical features. Alnaas display many of the same mannerisms as ordinary birds. They are fastidious about their plumage, frequently tending their feathers -- and when they deign to descend from the sky, they often do so near pools where they can catch fish and bathe themselves.
