Homebrew Xotl Species Details
Xotls are humanoid axolotls, salamanders that are always stuck in nymph phase. They have stubby legs and hands, their tails making up half of their body length and providing support for when they need waddle their way onto land. Six feathery gills protrude from the back of their head, three on each side, and look similar to horns from a distance. Xotls have light colored skin, ranging between light white, pinks, violets, or blues. Some axolotl are golden, but this is abnormal.
Xotls slimy skin coated in mucus to protect them while out of the water. They need a few cups of water splashed on their gills once every day to prevent gaining a point of exhaustion as their mucus begins to dry. Created by the Goddess of the Moon, Xotls prefer being active during dawn and dusk; they are crepuscular creatures that love the moon and starlight.
The society of Xotls relies on other civilizations as they prefer to not have leaders and will usually shy away from conflict with their own race. Maturing mentally at the age of 14, these slimy little beings never have their body change, always the same height and color since the age of 5 months after their hatching. Their first months of life is spent in an egg, developing arms and legs, growing in the egg sac.
Xotl Names
Xotl are usually named by their parents while still growing in embryo; offering a prayer to the Moon Goddess, they would pick a name that came to them in the moment and will speak it through the membrane daily. Able to hear and understand through the egg sac, the you Xotls are aware of their names at hatching. Most commonly named in the Aquan language, the Xotls have names such as the following:
Male: IhuitI, Mictlantec, Montezu, Cuetzpall, Eztli
Female: Ixtli, Necahual, Xitllali, Xoco, Zyanya

Your Constitution and Charisma scores increase by 1.
Age
Xotls mature at the age of 14 and have lifespans similar in length to theirs, however, Xotls above the age of 70 cannot use the Unique Regeneration racial feature.
Size
Xotls average about 3 feet tall and usually weigh between 40-45 pounds. Your size is small.
Speed
Your base walking speed and swimming speed is 25 feet.
Darkvision
You can see in dim light within 45 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Moon-tied
You know the shape water cantrip. Whenever you cast this cantrip you can choose to illuminate the water area from within. While the water is illuminated in this way, it sheds dim gray light in a 20 ft radius.
Unique Regeneration
Once per long rest you can expend your maximum number of hit die to cast lesser restoration on yourself without any components. If you cast lesser restoration on yourself in this way, you also may choose to regain 4d8 hit points or to restore severed body members (fingers, legs, tails, and so on), if any, after 12 hours. If you do not have your maximum number of hit die, you cannot use this feature.
Delicate Skin
You are vulnerable to acid damage. While on dry land, a few handfuls of clean water must be splashed or coat your gills once every day or else you gain a level of exhaustion.
