Homebrew Badgerfolk (Tanuki) Species Details

 

Tanuki Personality

Very secluded in their nature, tanukis are most often a proud yet private people. They are master hunters, fisherman, scavengers, and craftsmen, usually keeping one profession for each family name throughout each successive generation.

The Tanuki Profession table can help hone your character’s history. This table does not need to represent what your character is proficient with, just what your family has done in ages past.

Badgerfolk (Tanuki) Traits

Your badgerfolk character has the following racial traits.

Ability Score Increase

Your Wisdom score increases by 2, and your Constitution score increases by 1.

Age

Tanuki have lifespans similar to yet slightly longer than humans, often living for up to 130 years.

Size

Badgerfolk are shorter on average than humans and relatively wide in their build, usually reaching a height of 4 to 5 feet. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision

You have a badger’s keen nocturnal senses, especially in the dark. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Digging Claws

Because of your claws, you have a burrowing speed of 20 feet. In addition, your claws are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal slashing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.

Skilled Heritage

Your family's trade has been passed down through the ages, and now finally to you. You can choose one tool proficiency that was either passed down through your family or that you learned elsewhere.

Natural Scavenger

You have proficiency in the Perception and Survival skills.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language of your choice.
