Homebrew Awakened Ape Species Details
A paradise, untouched by man, rests within an undisturbed jungle. Deep in the shelter of the trees, the apes live a simple life, looking after their own. Perhaps one of these was awakened by some outside force, benign or otherwise. Regardless of how this creature attained its sentience, this beast now lives in two worlds.
Somewhere, something is calling for you. Two worlds, one family. Trust your heart, let fate decide to guide these lives we see.
Awakened Ape Traits
Expert climbers, prehensile feet, and dangerous grapplersSubrace
There are several types of ape throughout the known world, and each of them has their own unique traits and abilities.
Gorilla. As a gorilla, you gain +2 to your Strength score. In addition, you gain the Pounding Fists trait; your powerful arms enable you to fight more dangerously with no more armaments than other apes; your unarmed strikes now do 1d6 bludgeoning damage.
Chimpanzee. As a chimpanzee, you gain +2 to your Dexterity score. In addition, you gain the Wild Bloodshed trait; when attacking a target with less than maximum hit points, you can give yourself advantage on the attack. You can use this trait a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier, regaining all spent uses at the end of a long rest.
Orangutan. As an orangutan, you gain +2 to your Constitution score. In addition, you gain the Mighty Endurance trait; when you take bludgeoning, piercing, or slashing damage, you can use this trait to reduce the damage taken by an amount equal to your Constitution score. You can use this trait a number of times equal to your Constitution modifier, regaining all spent uses at the end of a long rest.
Prehensile Feet
Apes possess special hand-like feet, which allow them to grip and hold objects like they would with their hands, as well as enabling them to climb vertically with little difficulty.
You gain a climbing speed equal to your walking speed. In addition, you can hold objects with your feet as if they were hands. You can move at your full walking or climbing speed as long as you have two free "hands". However, this does not enable you to wield any additional weapons.
Dangerous Grapplers
With their lithe forms and strong fingers, apes are especially skilled at grabbing onto and wrestling with their opponents.
You have advantage on all Strength (Athletics) and Dexterity (Acrobatics) checks that involve a grapple, whether you are attempting to grapple a target or attempting to escape an opposing grapple.
Creature Type
As an ape, you have the beast creature type.
