Homebrew Alk Species Details

Bearfolk of the North
The Alk are a race of bear-like humanoids who are the natives to the plains of Northrom. Their fur, which is usually black or a shade of brown, is good to keep them warm in Northrom’s frigid climate, but it becomes more of a problem if they are to travel far enough to the south.
Hearts of Gold
While they have quite the menacing appearance, the Alk are generally peaceful creatures. While they are great hunters and can bring down even the most massive of beasts, they choose only to hunt what they need to eat and will not go to war unnecessarily. There are only a handful of Alk warriors in the history of Diath Amur, but those few are some of the greatest heroes the world has ever known.
Honor of the Tribe
There are various tribes of alk that inhabit the island of Northrom, each with a different code of honor. It is not in the nature of an Alk to betray his tribe, and this rule is generally well- kept. Upon reaching adulthood it is customary that a young Alk go out on his own for a year to see if he can survive. Most Alk return at the end of the year, however the love of adventure can lead the Alk to never return, even if the option will always be open to them.
Waste Not
The Alk are not in the habit of throwing things away. If an Alk has something it will be either used or traded to someone who has a use for it. Alk are also not a race who gives many gifts, but if they are feeling generous, they will trade a precious item for something of little worth to achieve a very similar effect to gift-giving.

Alk Traits

Alk are kind and honest creatures, they value their tribe and they value life. Death sentencing is forbidden throughout the entire race.

Ability Score Increase

Your strength score increases by 2 and your wisdom score increases by 1. Alk have naturally strong bodies and a mind to befriend those they meet.

Age

Alk reach adulthood around their early to mid teens and can live to be just younger than 100 years old.

Keen senses

due to living in the harsh environment of Northrom Alk have a sharp sense of their surroundings. You have proficiency in perception.

Size

Alk are close in size to grizzly bears and heights average from seven to eight feet tall. Alk are also heavyset creatures and their weight can range from 250 pounds and above on average.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Languages

You can read, speak, and write in common, Alkish, and another language of your choice. Alk speak interchangeably between Alkish and Common when speaking to another Alk and tend to pick up another language out of their friendly nature.

Dark Vision

Considering the island of Nothrom is completely dark several months of the year, the Alk have adapted to get used to seeing in dark places. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray

Thick fur

Due to the thick fur of the Alk you gain resistance to cold.
