Who The Aukai Are

The Aukai is known far and wide as a terror of the deep and many famous pirate crews were led by these ferocious creatures of the deep, the most popular theory to their origin is they were birthed from the remains of the great Leviathan that was slain by the gods to create the land, thus giving them the title of Leviathan-kin. The Aukai are an ancient race of ocean dwelling humanoids resembling a variety of sea creatures, the Aukai are much more than their reputation with a very strong artistic and historical importance.

 Their Culture

The culture of the Aukai is much less cut throat then their reputation would have you believe, the society of the Aukai revolves around a culture of togetherness and loyalty for their matriarchy. The queen Aukai, Kaili Ali'ikai is said to be the first Aukai and mother of the species, some Aukai believe her to be a deity, the true spirit of the Leviathan in a spiritual visage. The society is very help thy neighbor and curse thy enemies, with many Aukai creating small "in groups" that they will stay in until their deaths(much like mating for life), normally this only happens in crisis when the Aukai sees everyone as an enemy and quickly bands together with those familiar to itself. While not excluding those different from itself, the Aukai is very quick to judgement on first impressions. When dealing with an Aukai you must make your intentions very clear from the start, the Aukai is just as ready to be your friend as they are your enemy.

 Their Home

Most Aukai have settled in various parts of the sea with the queen located in the EverEmerald sea acting as it's capital, the capital is an Emerald city that lies beneath the sea, the city has an shining road of mixed gems and minerals, the buildings are made of strong stone or emerald with glowing exteriors. For many outsiders visiting the city, the Palace of Beginning is a must see with the grand size and glowing emerald walls it invites all to parry with the queen. However some Aukai have taken to the land as well, and choose to live among the other races, with most ending up as sailors or pirates to stay near the sea while still being in the company of others.

Varieties Of Aukai

There are three major types of Aukai, while still remaining humanoid in shape and anatomy there are some distinct characteristics that separates the race into three groups.

The Hammerhead Aukai are a shark like variety of Aukai with a hammerhead shaped head and teeth razor sharp and claws sharper, they're known as the terror of the deep. Being naturally gifted in hunting and maiming these Aukai tend to spend their time hunting for food or bounty hunting for gold, the Hammerhead lives for hunting down that which doesn't want to be found. Most leave the safety of the city to become adventurers on the surface.

The Lochness Aukai are more prehistoric looking in nature, representing a Plesiosaurus in nature with some having slightly longer neck  and more rounded features. These Aukai are known for being the most relaxed creatures in the sea, with most becoming artists and philosophers, the Lochness are envied for their carefree and creative outlook on life. The Lochness's calmness is something of a legend, some even claiming the Aukai helped negotiate relations with neighboring cities just by being present at the negotiation meetings.

The Leviathan Aukai are the closest representation of their mighty creator and infamous monster of the sea, being very hit or miss with different features the Leviathan Aukai could look anywhere between an angel gracing the ocean with it's presence to a sea creature of razor sharp teeth, eerie floating fins on scaled skin. Despite appearances however all Leviathan Aukai are deemed of higher status being seen as closer to their creator than any other, the Leviathan have crushing expectations to be the best they can be with their lives having a strong focus on education and perfecting skills. While some may accuse the Leviathans of being snotty and above it all, most Leviathan Aukai have a strong deep thirst for kinship often seeking the approval and loyalty of those around them by constantly trying to perfect themselves to an unhealthy degree.

You can breathe air and water.

Child Of Leviathan

Aquatic beasts have an extraordinary affinity with your people. You can communicate simple ideas with beasts that can breathe water. They can understand the meaning of your words, though you have no special ability to understand them in return.

Terror Of The Depths

Adapted to even the most extreme ocean depths, you have resistance to cold damage.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common, Primordial and one other language.

Claws Of The Beast

You have an unarmed attack of 1d6.

Darkvision

You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
