Homebrew Unbound Familiar Species Details

Familiars are wonderful, but sometimes a wizard gets so caught up in their studies they completely forget the familiar exists or forget to dispell them. This is when fun things happen.

When left alone long enough familiars can sometimes gain a conciousness apart from their owner. This allows them to get away when their owner is not looking and travel the world by themselves.

They look like regular animals but can feature weird coloration or proportions. Since familiars can be either a fey, fiend or celestial, unbound familiars also profit from this trait.

Unbound Familiar Traits

As a unbound familiar you gain access to the following traits;

Ability score increase

An unbound familiar gets a +2 in dexterity but get a -2 to strength because of their tiny frame.

Type

Unbound familiars are non humanoid, therefore have to choose to be either fey, fiend or celestial.

Size

Unbound familiars are the shape of normal familiars and are therefore tiny.

Languages

Familiars speak common and are able to communicate as if under the "speak with animals" spell.
