Homebrew Chiropteran Species Details

Fearsome by Nature

The Chiropteran is a bat-like humanoid with large ears, fangs as large as daggers and claw like wings. Their bodies are covered in thin, soft fur that goes to their shins, face still holding that batlike image. Their fur color changes during adolescence settling into either a brown or a shade of gray, growing lighter at the belly. They possess a long prehensile tail, that they use to cling onto fixtures, branches and rooftops. Standing at full height, the average Chiropteran stands at 7 feet, a foot taller than your average human and weighing around 160 lbs.

Their ears being one of the first things you will see when you come fact to face with a Chiropteran will be the ears that make up the majority of their head, with their vibrant eyes and  enormous fangs coming sharply in second. Those born with smaller ears and fangs are usually mistaken for a vampire or demon.

Colonists

Like their bat brethren, Chiropterans prefer to build their homes amongst their own kind. Due to the lack of jobs available to them they turn to crimes to either feed themselves or obtain items of value. Most could care less about the wants or needs of society but have allowed others who prove themselves into their community. Most believe this is due to some sort of bewitchment or spell. A chiropteran colony can be as small as a dozen and have been reported into the hundreds. When a colony becomes large enough to warrant attention they tend to relocate to a more secluded area, as to not incur the wrath of any neighboring military presence.

Chiropterans only want to feed and be left alone but when they must interact with others, the majority harbor hatred for those who think of them only as beats to be slain and keep a strong Lawful Evil alignment. In Plain Sight They Thrive

Chiropterans have had to hide their presence from society in order to survive and co-exist. They discovered early on that to trade they needed to hide their appearance and learn to communicate.

They learned early on, that the voices in their heads weren't those of demons or spectres. They could occasionally hear the thoughts of those that threatened them. Akin to this power was the ability to speak through the mind, but only in languages they have learned. And the dormant magic leftover from creation, was just enough to shroud their beastly characteristics, and turn them smooth and more appealing.
