Homebrew Bilík Species Details

Clans rich in ancient culture, tribes ranging from the roots of mountains to the blazing sand dunes, the band of warriors standing against a crazed monster, a commitment to community and tradition, and a ever-present desire to preserve the wilds —these common threads unite all bilík.

Big and Strong

Bold and hardy, bilík are known as skilled warriors, explorers, and guardians of the wilderness. They stand tall above the other races, and bilík are so broad and hearty that they can weigh twice much as even the tallest Kikiiri. Their courage and endurance are also easily a match for any foe or wild beast.

Bilík colorings range from deep brown to a pale hues tinged with grey, but the most common shades are light brown or deep tan, like certain tones of earth. Their feathers, worn long but in simple styles, are usually black, gray, or brown, though paler bilík often have yellowish feathers as well. Bilík value their feathers highly and groom them carefully.

Together Strong

Bilík place a premium on community and reliable skills. They have a compulsion to isolate themselves and focus on what will benefit the group rather than individuals. However the bilík usually do not remain stagnant in their practices and always seek to adapt along with their surroundings.

This dedication to protecting the wilderness and focusing on the needs of the majority has its drawbacks. Ideas that go against what the majority decide are often looked down upon, and constant forays into the unknown bring dangers of their own. Few bilík adventurers reach old age, as most die in either in the fulfillment of their duties or not adapting quickly enough to new ideas or situations.

Naturalists

Bilík tribes stretch biome to biome and their call to protect nature makes their communities naturally vary but all hold that value dear. They love the beauty and tenacity of the natural world and for some individuals, that love calls them into isolation from any form of civilization. Whatever necessity they can’t find on their own, they gain through trade. They dislike industrialization, so enterprising traders seek them out along the edges of cities or towns. Trustworthy members of other races are welcome in bilík settlements, though some areas are off limits even to them.

Bilík that live outside of their communities often become explorers, guides, monster hunters, or ambassadors to more industrial communities. Some become mercenaries or bodyguards, highly sought after for their courage and loyalty.

Self-Sustaining Devotion

Similar to the other races of Bis'taki, the bilík people worship the living gods; with Ahkeyeth being the most popular recipient of their devotion. Several tribes ascribe Ahkeyeth as the god of their original world as their values align so closely to the deity's principles.

There are some who find Ahkeyeth's watchful gaze from their mountain throne unnerving, but several bilik find the attention comforting. Some instead worship the ancient spirits which were left behind yet the memory of them still holds strength. However, they know not to rely too heavily upon their chosen god or spirits as true strength emerges in the support of the community, and not an individual; even if that individual is a god. 

Bilík Names

A bilík's name is an important aspect of their person and one which is not taken lightly, in accordance with tradition. It generally takes families a year to find the right name for their child. A lot of thought and prayer goes into deciding a name and the story behind it is just as important as the name itself. Without the story there is no explanation about the meaning of the name. The first birthday is a big event. Many bilík organize large family dinners to celebrate the first year of their child’s life. 

Tribe Names: These names generally follow the same convention of their members and often reflect either their population's culture/ history, chosen environment, devotion to Ahkeyeth or the spirits of their old world.

Most bilík are lawful, believing in the benefits of an egalitarian society. They tend toward good as well, with a strong sense of fair play and a belief that everyone deserves to share in the benefits of a caring community.

Bilík stand between 7 and 8 feet tall and average about 280 and 340 pounds. Your size is Medium.

Your base walking speed is 30 feet. Your speed is not reduced by wearing heavy armor.

Darkvision
