Homebrew Vulpinkin Species Details
Reynard. The Kitsune. Kuma Lisa. Throughout history and across cultures and mythologies, the fox is a symbol of cunning and trickery. The stories are numerous and varied, much like the creatures themselves. Adaptable and diverse as their storied history, the Vulpinkin can be found in many places and many worlds.
A Diverse People
Vulpinkin come in many colors, shapes and sizes, but there are some constants. They all have a layer of fur covering their bodies, large triangular ears on the top of their heads, pointed snouts on their faces, and a tail. The palms of their hands are padded and their fingers end in claws. Most do not have additional hair on their head or facial hair.
A Trickster's Heart
Vulpinkin are generally affable folk creatures who love to laugh, be it from a small practical joke or execution of poetic justice. Many who venture out from their villages develop reputations as pranksters, although some also fall to villainy, excelling at various forms of grift, fraud, theft and the like. This reputation has spread to the general view of the race, particularly of people far from Vulpinkin settlements, much to the chagrin of the merry pranksters and honest folk of the race.
Hidden Villages
While Vulpinkin abroad are an affable sort who often trade with and live among other races, they also keep their own villages well hidden. From collections of underground dens and dugouts set in the sides of hills and cliffs, to more conventional housing in deep forest valleys or among the high reaches of mountain steppes, a traveler will most likely never happen upon a Vulpinkin village by accident. Being invited to a Vulpinkin village is uncommon, and is reserved only for honored friends.
Vulpinkin Names
Vulpinkin who have lived near or among other cultures often give their offspring names from said cultures. For example; a child from a mountain village that trades with dwarves might be given a dwarvish name like Adrik or Amber, but with no clan name. Vulpinkin also have a family name much the same way humans have surnames.
