Homebrew Arachnist Species Details

Children of arachnids who ascended to the surface long ago, arachnists are a race of good hearted people who suffer violence and discrimination because of their ancsestors and appearence.

Arachid Bloodline

Arachnoids are smaller than humans and have 8 appendages (6 legs, 2 arms), and mandables on their face. They have a black to dark grey color and usually bear a tattoe of a symbol with the emblem of their family embroidered on their back.

Self-Reliant and Suspicious

Arachnists live in large groups in caves under the earth, they are most often led by a queen who lays the eggs. Unlike most arachnids though, the males and females are equal in status.

Arachnist Names

Aracnist names fall into three broad categories. Arachnists born into another culture typically have names reflective of that culture. Some have names derived from the Arachnid language, passed down through generations, that reflect their arachid heritage. And some younger Arachnists, striving to find a place in the world, adopt a name that signifies a virtue or other concept and then try to embody that concept. For some, the chosen name is a noble quest. For others, it’s a grim destiny.

MUTUAL MISTRUST

People tend to be suspicious of Arachists, assuming that their arachid heritage has left its mark on their personality and morality, not just their appearance. Shopkeepers keep a close eye on their goods when they enter their stores, the town watch might follow an arachnist around for a while, and demagogues blame Arachnists for strange happenings. The reality, though, is that an arachnist's bloodline doesn’t affect his or her personality to any great degree. Years of dealing with mistrust does leave its mark on most tieflings, and they respond to it in different ways. Some choose to live up to the wicked stereotype, but others are virtuous. Most are simply very aware of how people respond to them. After dealing with this mistrust throughout youth, a tiefling often develops the ability to overcome prejudice through charm or intimidation.

Your Intelligence and dexterity score increases by 1, and your Charisma score increases by 2.

Age

Arachnists stay in their eggs until around 6 years old and then hactch and take an additional 18 years to mature. The common folk usually live to be around 100, but the queen can live for over 300 years.

Arachnists are a little bit smaller than humans. Your size is Medium - Small.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet, and your climing speed is 20 feet.

Darkvision

Thanks to your infernal heritage, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

You have weakness to fire damage.
