Homebrew Avali Species Details
The Avali are small, raptor like individuals with a large hunting instinct. Standing bipedally, with a large tail and 3-fingered hands, these creatures are fuzzy and fluffy, and often go unnoticed by others due to their own safety precautions.
Typically, Avali are a pack-race, and are often never found on their lonesome. Similar to Kobolds or Goblins, they work best together. They have innate magic in their blood that surges often, and if used, can kill them.
In Formir, they were first found among Goliath folk in the deep caves and mountains- far North. Coexisting with the Giant-Kin, Avali were quick to become tinkerers, their innate magic being deadly to them if cast without a focus- learning Artificery helped benefit themselves and the Giant-Kin greatly. The Goliaths served as strength, and protection, while the Avali; with their quick thinking and desire to learn, kept everyone safe and out of harms way.
Moderately dexterous, and very prone to having high-intellects, the Avali either kept their magics to themselves, or practiced tinkering, crafting focuses to use for spellcasting instead.
Avali Traits
Being as innovative and crafty as they are, the Avali receive a +2 bonus to their intelligence score.Ability score increase.
Due to their crafty, innovative, and exploratory nature, Avali gain a +2 to their intelligence score.
Blindsight
Due to having 4 ears and a high sense for danger- Avali have become so aware of the sounds around them that their hearing acts similar to that of blindsight. This blindsight range for Avali is 30ft, as they are acutely aware of their surrounding noises at all times.
Advanced Perception
Due to their sensitive hearing, the Avali gain advantage on hearing based perception checks.
Avali have an acute sense of awareness that, with their 4 long ears, can pick up on sounds that many others may not be able to.
Feather Gliding
Whilst unimpeded by medium or heavy armor, an Avali can Glide using their wings.
Due to their wings, they can slow the speed at which they fall.
They have a Glide speed of 30ft.
They must keep moving for this ability to work. If needed, whilst Gliding, if they need to avoid a creature, debris, or other aerial items that could impede them, they can make the decision to drop; allowing themselves to convert their forward momentum into downward momentum instead.
For Example: If an Avali is falling from a cliff face that stands at 100ft in height, for every 5ft they fall, they can Glide forward by 30ft. Assuming that the terrain below is safe enough for them to land, within 2 minutes of this unimpeded process, they would land safely, 600ft away from their falling location.
