Homebrew Bäume Species Details

An ancient tradition among druids is to protect their forests with beings known as Bäume . The knowledge of how to create such beings has been lost over many millennia. These old, long-since deactivated beings sometimes spring back to life, for many reasons unknown.

The flesh of their bodies as hard as oak. The hair on their head knotted with vines and sometimes flowers. These creatures are nature personified, with their passion to protect the wilds at the cost of their own life.

To an outsider, they may seem like a tall human with a knack for floral accessories. The only thing that gives them away as different is their legs. Starting at the knees, flesh becomes wood and feet become sturdy roots that carry them to and fro.

Bäume Traits

Being of the wilds and nature, you have many beneficial traits that give you a very sturdy and defensive body, and even some magical protection.

Plant Your Roots

As an action, plant your roots into earthen terrain.

You gain the following traits:
-Your speed becomes 0 and cannot be increased.
-You regain 1 HP upon using this action, then 1 HP at the start of your following turns.
-You gain disadvantage on Dexterity Saving Throws.
-Forceful movement and teleportation cause this feature to be interrupted, in which case you must use an action on your turn to plant your roots again.
-If your form is altered by an effect like Polymorph or Wildshape, you cannot use this feature until that effect ends.

You may end this feature as a bonus action.

The maximum amount of HP that this feature can recover is based on your class levels. Once this this trait has healed [2x Total Class Levels] HP, no more health can be recovered in this way until you finish a long rest.

Your Constitution score increases by 2, and your Wisdom score increases by 1.

Age

These creatures are built to last. The druids needed them to guard the wilds for as long as possible.

Grove Guardians live for about 500 years.

Synthesis

Instead of sleeping, Bäume simply need to spend 4 hours unmoving, rooted in sand, dirt, mud, loose stone or gravel. Light activity can be done during this time such as reading, writing, or keeping watch.
A Bäum unable to take root overnight gains one point of exhaustion that remains until a long rest in the above conditions. This trait cannot increase exhaustion level beyond level one.

For 24 hours after you take a rooted long rest, you do not need to eat or drink.

Languages

You can Speak, Read, and Write Common and Sylvan.

Flammable

You are weak to unnatural fire. Fire damage that is caused by a spell of 1st level or higher does an increase of 1d6 damage per level of the spell against you.
